Located in Münster, DE

Casket Baroque, around 1760, birch burl and walnut, round lid with folding star inlay and pewter thread inlays, original lock and fittings, shellac hand polish Dimensions: Height: 14 cm Width: 26 cm Depth: 20 cm Most pieces of furniture from the Baroque era date from the period between 1670 and around 1750. Starting with strict but pompous forms, Baroque furniture developed into playful pieces of furniture with numerous curves and magnificent fittings by the middle of the 18th century. Baroque cabinets are usually disproportionately large by today's living standards, as they originally stood in castles. Heights of 2.40 to 2.60 meters are not uncommon for baroque cabinets. In early Baroque furniture...

19th Century Antique Regency Mahogany Longcase Clock by John Barwise of London

By John Barwise

Located in Devon, GB

A fine Regency longcase clock in the form of a domestic regulator in an architectural mahogany case with inset panels of satinwood and ebonized mouldings. The case of this clock shows the distinct influence of Thomas Hope, the eminent antiquarian and designer who was inspired by the Greek and Egyptian designs. The 12in square brass dial has a silvered finish and is engraved with Roman chapters and subsidiary second’s dial. The dial is signed within the lower section 'Barwise, London'. The eight day duration movement is of the highest quality, with five pillars, dead beat escapement, maintaining power and hour strike on a bell. The pendulum has a wood rod for temperature compensation with beat adjustment and rating nut beneath the brass bob. The clock is complete with the original brass cased weights. John Barwise was an eminent maker working in London from 1790. He was chairman of the British Watch...
