Antique Moroccan Fez Hand-Carved Ceramic Vase with Arabic Calligraphy

Antique Moroccan Fez Hand-Carved Ceramic Vase with Arabic Calligraphy

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

Antique Moroccan Fez Hand-Carved Ceramic Vase with Arabic Calligraphy, Early 20th Century A remarkable hand-sculpted Moroccan ceramic vase from the historic pottery city of Fez (Fès), celebrated for centuries as the cultural and artistic heart of Moroccan ceramics. This impressive vessel showcases the timeless beauty of Moorish craftsmanship, featuring an earthy dark brown to black clay body meticulously hand-carved with flowing Arabic calligraphy highlighted in contrasting ivory tones. The richly textured surface is entirely hand-incised with elegant Arabic script, inspired by the architectural decoration found throughout the Islamic world. The intricate calligraphy recalls the magnificent inscriptions adorning the walls, arches, and courtyards of the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain, reflecting the enduring artistic dialogue between Morocco and Al-Andalus. Whether composed of poetry, blessings, or ornamental inscriptions, the calligraphy transforms this vessel into a sculptural work of Islamic art. The vase features a generous flared mouth with a lightly glazed interior and is flanked by two distinctive ribbed side handles, each carefully hand-carved to complement the vessel's architectural form. Its bold silhouette and richly textured surface make it equally striking displayed alone or as a statement vessel for large floral arrangements. Handcrafted using traditional techniques passed down through generations of Fez artisans, this exceptional vase embodies the artistry and cultural heritage of Moroccan pottery. It complements Moorish, Mediterranean, Spanish Colonial, Islamic, Organic Modern, Wabi-Sabi, Global, and Bohemian interiors. Origin: Fez (Fès), Morocco Date: Early 20th Century Materials: Hand-thrown and hand-carved ceramic Style: Moorish / Islamic / Moroccan Dimensions: Height: 17.25 in. Diameter: 11 in. Mouth Opening: 6 in. Condition: Good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. Natural variations, minor imperfections, and a beautiful aged patina enhance the authenticity and character of this handcrafted piece. A museum-worthy example of traditional Moroccan pottery, this sculptural vase beautifully combines the expressive power of Arabic calligraphy with the enduring elegance of Moorish design. Keywords: antique Moroccan vase, Fez pottery, Arabic calligraphy vase...

Moroccan Vintage Tamgroute Green Olive Jar with Handles
Moroccan Vintage Tamgroute Green Olive Jar with Handles

Moroccan Vintage Tamgroute Green Olive Jar with Handles

By Berber Tribes of Morocco

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

Moroccan vintage, 1960's green olive jar, or planter with handles. Handcrafted by the berber people in Tamgroute Morocco. Great glazed earthenware with different hues of green and black. A pair is available, slightly different glaze, Top diameter is 10" inside opening is 7" D. Jar is 38" H x 20" D in the widest part. Wonderful green and brown shimmering that can be found only in south Morocco in the village of Tamgroute. The color and texture is a result of the particular alchemy created by the potters of Tamegroute and remains a family affair handed down through the generations. Each pottery piece is completely unique and no two are ever the same. Please note that the traditional method in which the plates are fired involves stacking which result in tiny ‘scars’ inside the plate and in the glaze making, each bowl is unique the beauty is found in the imperfection of each piece. Tamegroute pottery are true showpieces showing that even imperfect can be perfect. Tamegroute remains the only rural pottery in Morocco using oxidized copper which creates its famous green color. Its potteries are also the only location where you will find their unique forms. The process however remains much the same. Clay is dug up from the local Draa river banks, thrown by hand & fired inkilns built into steep slopes using a single firing. Vintage green glazed pottery...
