Pair of Antique Horn Drinking Vessels with Silvered Figural State Drinking Glass

Located in Wembley, GB

A Pair of Antique Horn Drinking Vessels with Silvered Figural Stands, 19th Century This striking pair of sculptural horn vessels exemplifies the dramatic elegance of 19th-century European decorative arts, combining natural materials with finely modelled metalwork. Each vessel is formed from a polished natural horn, gracefully curved and mounted with silvered metal mounts, including pierced collars and tapered finials that accentuate the organic silhouette of the horn. The horns are supported by cast silvered figural bases, each depicting a standing male figure in period dress, posed dynamically as if presenting the vessel above. The figures rest on stepped circular bases, lending architectural stability and theatrical presence to the composition. The interplay between the warm, variegated tones of the horn and the cool brilliance of the silvered metal creates a visually compelling contrast, both tactile and sculptural. Historically inspired by ceremonial drinking horns associated with aristocratic, guild, and courtly traditions, this pair functions today as luxury decorative objects rather than utilitarian vessels. They are ideal as statement centrepieces, cabinet highlights, or collector’s objects, appealing to interiors that celebrate historicism, masculinity, and craftsmanship. Whether placed symmetrically on a console, flanking a mantelpiece, or displayed in a curated interior vignette, these horn vessels project authority, heritage, and refined eccentricity. Details Type: Pair of decorative horn vessels / drinking horns Date: 19th century Materials: Natural horn, silver mounts Decoration: Figural silvered stands, pierced collars Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear Presentation: A matched and visually balanced pair Diameter approx. 14 cm, height approx. 51.5 cm A remarkable collection of antique drinking horns...

Pair of Mounted Drinking Horns Drinking Glass on Stand Early 20th Century Silver

Located in Wembley, GB

Pair of Early 20th-Century Nickel-Silver-Mounted Drinking Horns on Stands An exceptional and highly decorative pair of early 20th-century nickel silver mounted drinking horns, raised on elegant pedestal stands and crafted in the grand tradition of European ceremonial tableware. Each natural horn is beautifully curved and richly toned, displaying warm ivory, honey, and charcoal striations that highlight the organic character of the material. The rims are mounted with polished nickel silver collars, while the midsections feature finely worked metal mounts with engraved foliate detailing, adding refinement and historic gravitas. The horns are supported by sculptural nickel silver stems and circular stepped bases, creating a striking silhouette with impressive vertical presence. Drinking horns of this scale and quality were traditionally associated with Nordic, Germanic, and Continental European ceremonial traditions, often used in festive banquets, aristocratic gatherings, and historical revival interiors. By the early 20th century, such pieces became highly sought-after decorative objects, reflecting the Romantic fascination with medieval and Viking revival...

About Mark Lissauer: Mark Lissauer spent forty years travelling abroad for months at a time collecting ethnographic artefacts primarily from New Guinea and the islands of the West Pacific, and from Asia and Himalayan countries. His home has a specialist library and several rooms are filled with tribal carvings, textiles and ethnographica. He acquired his first tribal piece in 1948 during a business trip to Milne Bay, New Guinea, and has since documented the acquisition of some 35,000 items.
