Otto and Vivika Heino Signed Monumental Studio Pottery Six Bird Head Bowl Pot
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully designed and exceptionally rare earthenware six bird's head bowl or pot (bird head works are very coveted among collector's of the Heino's work) by ceramics masters husband and wife artists Vivika and Otto Heino. Quite heavy and substantial in Size. The couple were best known for their inspired designs and distinctive glazes.
This massive bowl or pot is signed on the underside and is in very good vintage condition with no discernible flaws. Again, quite rare. We have never seen another like it with this many birds.
Would be the crown jewel in any collection and sure to stand out in any setting.
Dimensions: 10.5" high, 11" diameter
The couple are winners of the following awards:
Gold Medal from the sixth Biennale internationale de céramique d'art, in Vallauris, France, (1978).
Silver medal from the International Ceramics Exhibitions in Ostend, Belgium, (1959)

A truly gorgeous, sumptuously, richly, and darkly glazed, hand-decorated large Japanese studio pottery charger. The craftsmanship is exquisite. The piece radiates in the light and features an abstract trailed glaze design. The work is very reminiscent of Japanese master potters Shoji Hamada and Toshiko Takaezu (the previous owner lived half of each year in Hawaii where Toshiko lived and collected both her and Hamada's works).
Possible marker's impressed mark/ chop signature along the edge of the lower rim (please see photos).

The Talavera is not just a simple painted ceramic: its exquisite decoration is the product of a delicate process of alchemy that translates into fine enamels. In Puebla, Mexico few people still produce using Talavera with the ancestral techniques.
One of those few is Cesar Torres, Don Cesar learned his art in the workshop of the Uriarte family, an excellent workshop where his grandfather worked. In his creations he uses the black and white mud that is obtained from the nearby hills of Loreto and Guadalupe, and colors of mineral origin that he creates in his workshop with recipes from his grandfather.
All the pieces are modeled in a traditional way and go through a production process that usually takes from one to two months, between drying, burning, and painting.
Being surrounded by a living tradition, Cesar Torres Jr., learned from his father since childhood. A beautiful Japanese yunomi teacup featuring a subtle blue-green crackle glaze. The work radiates in the light.
This little gem (along with others we will be listing) came from a collector of fine Japanese and Asian ceramics - a collection like no other we have seen before. The yunomi teacup has a somewhat Wabi-Sabi feel and appearance to it.
Appears to be signed by the maker/artist on the base.
Would be a great addition to any Asian or Japanese pottery/ceramics collection...
