Wonderful and rare Italian chandelier in the "Montgolfière" - Hot Air Balloon - style popular in the beginning of the 19th century. Built around an exceptional glass column made of a single piece of glass (75 cm) which surmounts and holds a gold leaf gilded cup. 8 solid glass arms illuminate the chandelier. At the top of the chandelier a crown of almond beads and drops forms the canopy. The chandelier is then festooned with garlands of almond shaped beads and drops. Garlands festoon from the top to a circular ring in the middle. The garlands then festoon from the circular ring and are attached to a central piece underneath. This style is typical of hot air balloon and Regency chandeliers. At the end of the 18th century, under the reign of Louis XVI, King of France, the Montgolfier brothers invented the Montgolfière.
