A fine French art pottery centerpiece. By Delphin Massier in Vallauris. Created ca. 1900. Depicting 3 conjoined maidens cradling their faces with their dresses flowing into a wide trefoil undulating base. Marked to the base. (Perhaps a depiction of the goddess Hecate.) There is evidence of an old professional repairs. We note overpaint to sections of the figures and base. Not noted on the underside. (We're not sure what the extent of the repairs were. Given the lack of evidence of repair on the underside, we think it may have been chips or flakes to the top.) In any case, it displays very nicely. Simply wonderful French Art Nouveau design! Date: ca. 1900 Overall Condition: It is in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition with no chips or cracks. Condition Details: There is evidence of an old professional repairs. We note overpaint to sections of the figures and base. Not noted on the underside. (We're not sure what the extent of the repairs were. Given the lack of evidence of repair on the underside, we think it may have been chips or flakes to the top.) Otherwise, there is some crazing throughout, some light fritting or glaze loss around the edges of the base, some light scratches to the overpaint, and some bubbling and roughness in the glaze that appears to be a firing flaw around the edges. A good antique 18th century Ottoman Iznik/Kutayha pottery plate, circa 1750. The plate with a cream glaze ground, hand-painted with multi-colored floral motifs of under glaze blue, green & red. The plate is decorated with typical stylized tulips, carnations and Ottoman Saz leaves & blossoms. Iznik & Kutahya are towns in Turkey with an illustrious history of hundreds of years of fine pottery making, this type of pottery is characterized by it's fritware body often containing a high percentage of ground glass & fired at lower temperatures, a type of tin glazed earthenware, which was an attempt to imitate the high-fired glazes of Chinese porcelain. This plate dates to the middle of the 1700s by around 1800 the production of such pottery has ceased. This plate is in good condition, no cracks or chips, expected small amounts of glaze loss to the edges, the makers mark is on the verso in the form of an under glaze flower head.
