Created circa 1994 as part of a limited run of 500 pieces, this handled portrait vase is stamped 296 Edition 29A out of 500 Picasso by Padilla Mexico and bears an original Padilla paper label. The front is signed "Picasso" in blue script, reflecting the artist’s unmistakable style.
Standing 12 inches high, 5.5 inches wide (including the handle), and 3.5 inches deep, this piece features a striking hand-painted abstract portrait. The cream/ivory base is accented with dark green outlining the rim, while ochre tones are used for the expressive scraffito hair-like design. The face and decorative swirl patterns are rendered in deep blue, while lavender brushstrokes elegantly swirl around the lower half. Louis Christiaan Kalff (14 November 1897 in Amsterdam - 16 September 1976 in Waalre) was a Dutch designer. After graduating from secondary school, Kalff studied at the Quellinus School in Amsterdam (now the Gerrit Rietveld Academie) and at the Technical University of Delft.
Between 1925 and 1926, together with Jan Hanrath, Kalff designed the building of the Delft Student Rowing Association (D.S.R.V. Laga) in the style of the Amsterdam School.
In 1925, Kalff joined the Philips advertising department. Under his direction, the Lighting Advice Bureau (LIBU) was established in 1929. He designed the Philips logo and participated in the World Expositions in Barcelona, Antwerp, Brussels and Paris. He also designed posters and printed advertisements for the Holland-America Line, the Calvé company, the seaside resort of Scheveningen and Holland Radio. He also designed book covers.
Kalff also worked for Philips as an architect on buildings such as the Dr A.F. Philips Observatory in Eindhoven (1937), the Diamond Court in Valkenswaard (1948) and several country houses for Philips directors in Eindhoven and Waalre.
Kalff continued to work for Philips as a product designer after the Second World War. For the Philips pavilion...

Franciscan by Gladding McBean El Patio Jug Carafe w/ Lid, Sea Mist Green 1930s

Vintage Art deco style carafe or jug with lid features simple, clean design, the iconic “pretzel” shaped cup handle, and high gloss turquoise glaze. It's a part of El Patio line, attributed to Mary Grant, the first dinnerware line produced by Gladding McBean under their Franciscan Pottery division in 1934. The glaze color, Glacial Blue, is one of the first 8 glaze colorways for the line. El Patio line had three versions of the carafe – one with a wooden handle, one with a ceramic handle, and another with a metal holder; this carafe has the build-in ceramic handle, resulting in streamlined, monochromatic look.
The carafe is marked on the bottom with the oval GMCB mark that was in use from 1934 to 1938. The mark dates the piece to the earliest years of the production of El Patio, one of the five most important California solid colored dinnerware lines of the 1930s, alongside Pacific Hostessware, Bauer Ringware, Metlox 200 Series, and Vernon Kilns Early California.
