A striking American Organic Modern queen-size platform bed, handcrafted in 1999 and distinguished by its exceptionally wide solid-wood live-edge headboard. Combining the expressive character of naturally figured wood with clean architectural lines, the bed offers a sophisticated interpretation of Japanese minimalism, Wabi-Sabi design and late-20th-century American studio furniture. The focal point is the substantial headboard, measuring an impressive 90 inches wide. Its gently irregular upper edge preserves the organic outline of the original wood, while the expansive surface displays beautiful variations in grain, tone and texture. Several decorative brass bow-tie or butterfly inlays punctuate the slab, introducing a refined mixed-material detail while drawing attention to the headboard’s natural markings. An oil finish enriches the warm brown coloration and gives the wood a soft, low-sheen appearance rather than a glossy manufactured surface. The monumental 90-inch-wide headboard extends well beyond the 68-inch-wide platform, creating a strong horizontal composition that visually frames a standard queen mattress. Its organic form is balanced by the bed’s precisely constructed low-profile base, which appears to float just above the floor on discreet recessed supports. The resulting design feels substantial without appearing visually heavy. A complete wooden slat system provides flexible mattress support and encourages ventilation, eliminating the need for a box spring. The platform accommodates a standard queen-size mattress measuring approximately 60 by 80 inches. Mattress and bedding are not included. The bed can be disassembled into manageable components for transport and installation, although the solid-wood construction is heavy and professional delivery and assembly are recommended. The platform measures 85 inches long by 68 inches wide by 8.5 inches high. The headboard measures 47 inches high by 90 inches wide by approximately 1.6 inches deep. Overall dimensions should be confirmed at the intended installation location, particularly because the headboard is considerably wider than the mattress platform. American in origin and manufactured in 1999, the bed is handcrafted from solid wood with brass decorative inlays and an oil finish. The maker and specific wood species have not been identified. Its design complements Organic Modern, Japanese Minimalist, Wabi-Sabi, Asian Modern, Rustic Modern, Contemporary and California Craftsman interiors. Presented in very good vintage condition with minor scuffs, surface scratches and wear consistent with age and use. Natural grain variations, tonal differences and irregularities along the live edge contribute to the bed’s individual character and should not be considered defects.
