Created in Provincial France in the early 19th century, this culinary icon exudes history and craftsmanship, hand-crafted of mixed woods including maple and oak, quality solid wood construction with visible pegged mortise and dovetail joinery that adds to the interest, having a shaped backsplash with convenient tool slot for storing utensils, meat cleavers, and knives.
Featuring a thick heavy-duty contoured end-grain work surface with attractive worn smooth dark rich distressed patina, authentic wear, knife marks, and uneven organic form acquired from generations of cutting, chopping, carving, typical industrial knife work and butchery. Banded with large brass corner brackets, the rectangular butcher block sits over a paneled base stand fitted with a single deep spacious drawer, affixed with the original oversized brass ring pull, ideal for convenient knife storage and easy access, over a scalloped apron, rising on chunky turned legs.

A one-off, fantastical table by American craftsman, Andrew J Willner, executed in rare, spalted wormy maple, its five individual sections sculpted by hand and constructed with pegged mortise and tenon joinery. A dramatic pair of legs that are an amalgam of human and avian forms supports a top surface riddled with worm holes and whose outline serves as reference to a bird's beak and plumage. Made as a gift for Willner's parents, the underside bears a carved inscription: "'Mortgage Table' Thanks mom and dad, Love Andy & Diana, AJW April 76". A quintessential example of 1970s fantasy studio furniture. Well-preserved, in all original condition.

Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, it has been totally refinished. There is a scratch on the laminate top we have done our best to disguise but it is still visible. What a DELIGHTFUL Dining Table!!!! WOW!!!! This is a MAGNIFICENT vintage Modern to Postmodern square dining table comprised of straight narrow rectangular maple legs and a beautiful blue laminate inlaid top designed by Michael Graves for Craftwood a Division of Sonnenberg Ind. Ltd. It was specified by Michael Graves who redesigned the Topeka Public Library in 1998. The rest of the project’s furniture for the 100,000 square foot addition specified by him as well. He collaborated with several celebrity designers and created some of the most avant-garde and high style furniture in the 1980’s. SUPER COOL!!!! The construction method of this table is celebrated with a marvelous square tabletop featuring a lovely blue laminate inlaid surface surrounded by a marvelous maple edge, four straight, narrow maple legs, & lower apron. In addition to being great looking… it is very sturdy! Originating in 18th century Japan, shou sugi ban is a particularly striking method of preserving wood by charring it with fire. Traditionally, this practice is used with Japanese cedar in order to weatherproof it. The wood is burned until the surface is charred, and then coated with natural oil.

Our stumps all go through a drying process in our kiln, sometimes for up to a month. We are meticulous with bringing each and every log to a specific moisture level. This process helps with major cracking, long-term moisture issues, and bugs.
ECO FRIENDLY
In an effort to replenish the trees we use, we plant 50+ trees a year. In addition, we practice salvage logging. Where do we source these? Some of the trees fall naturally. Some have damage from severe wind, lightning, flood, disease, or other natural disturbance so they need to be cut and removed before they fall. Others are fresh cut because people want them off their land. Salvage logging may reduce erosion, reduce intensity of future wildfires, and slow buildup of pest insects.

This rare gem encapsulates the quintessence of Borsani's design ethos: elegant and graceful proportions, fine materials, and unique constellations. Crafted from warm-toned maple, every detail speaks of refinement, from the intricately carved legs adorned with graphic white lines to the kidney-shaped top embellished with a mirrored surface, reflecting one's cherished objects with finesse. An outstanding element is the trio of individual rectangular mirrors with softly rounded contours, equipped with built-in lamps executed within a brass framework, their crown sockets gracefully encircling the lightbulbs. These mirrors are affixed to a maple panel punctuated by three characteristic holes, a signature touch of Borsani. A discreet drawer offers practical storage while maintaining the table's sleek aesthetic. In every aspect, this table attests to Borsani's masterful ability to strike the perfect balance between the orante elegance of Art Deco and the daring approach towards materiality and streamlined functionality of Modernism.
Osvaldo Borsani (1911-1985) was an Italian designer and architect, raised by a family of fine furniture makers in Varedo. At the age of 16, he joined his father’s furniture shop, the Atelier di Varedo, which was fully engaged in designing and furnishing homes inspired by the Italian Art Deco movement. The designer of the atelier was the Italian architect Gino Maggioni (1898-1955) who was known for his Viennese Jugendstil orientation of the early 20th century. In the 1930s, he graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and Politecnico di Milano, where he studied Fine Arts and Architecture respectively. In 1932, the family company was renamed ‘Arredamenti Borsani’ and opened its first studio in Milan. During this period, he encountered Avant-Garde artists of various artistic disciplines like Lucio Fontana (1899-1968), Agenore Fabbri (1911-1998), Aligi Sassu (1912-2000), Roberto Crippa (1921-1972), Fausto Melotti (1901-1986), Arnaldo Pomodoro (1926-) and Giò Pomodoro (1930-2002). These collaborations resulted in the creation of furniture and interior design projects with a high-level of craftsmanship and artistry. In 1953, Borsani founded together with his twin brother Fulgenzio Borsani ‘Tecno’, a design and manufacturing company that produced items based on mechanical innovations and refined technicality. The ‘P40’ adjustable lounge chair (1953) has become the ideological manifesto of Borsani's Tecno program, and still remains the best known, exemplary piece in the Tecno catalogue.
