Period Baltimore Classical Curly Maple Console Games Table

About the Item

A fine Federal period American Classical maple morphing table from the early 19th century. Exquisitely hand-crafted in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, circa 1830, exceptionally executed, the wooden hinged gate leg flip-top table morphs between a demilune console and double the size card game table. Featuring a solid maple joined plank top with twisted and tapered hand turned legs and a broad curly maple apron. There is little decoration beyond the burl inlaid cartouches at the top of each leg, rich grain patterns and warm light wood tones. A truly superb example of nineteenth century American furniture. Dimensions (approx): 28-7/8 x 44-3/8 x 20-1/8 inches (closed/console) Elegant, sophisticated, historical, and highly versatile, having the ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a hall console, sofa table, kitchen breakfast table, center table, card playing table, dining server, or placed in the foyer as a stunning yet unpretentious entry statement piece!
