This magnificent Louis XVI style ormolu casket is supported by a mirror-topped table stand, which sits on four tapered, fluted legs connected by a curving X-form stretcher. In the centre of this stretcher is an ormolu urn decorated with rams heads, four hoof feet and birds on the top. The legs of the table are also ornately decorated with draped garlands and scrolled detailing. The apron is inset with Sèvres style porcelain plaques depicting scenes of cherubs and children in landscapes as well as decorative floral detailing, and is surmounted with laurel leaf mounts.
The casket itself is of oval architectural form, and is set on fourteen small feet. It features further porcelain plaques depicting cherubs, musical instruments and a central oval portrait of Queen Marie Antoinette within a crowned gilt cartouche. Her portrait is flanked by two cherubs and is sat within a decorative royal blue border, matching the turquoise colored borders of the other plaques. The reverse of the casket is similarly decorated and features a painted plaque of her husband King Louis XVI.
The plaques are separated by mounted ormolu columns decorated with crowns and draped laurel leaves, and each column is surmounted by floral crowns. Each curved side of the casket features an ormolu mask of a female figure, and the hinged lid is surmounted by two reclining female figures wearing draped dresses and holding a central crown. The casket opens at the lid to reveal a velvet interior.

This very impressive console table comes from the famous American Country house Blairsden. This house built in Peapack NJ for C. Ledyard Blair and Mrs. Florence Blair between 1898 and 1903. The house was created and decorated by the important architectural firm of Carrere & Hastings. The firm produced many homes, churches, monuments and public buildings for America's gilded age notables. Blairsden boasts extensive landscaped gardens in the manner of the French Baroque in the tradition of Andre Le Notre. The interiors as well where extensively set out and incorporated appropriate French and English furniture complimenting the decorative schemes. No expense was spared to create this house and grounds based on the ideals of Edwardian splendor and the ideal modern residence. This house was listed in 1903 upon its completion in the survey of American Estates & Gardens published by Barr Ferree. While much was spoken of its location, setting, architectural accomplishments and style the summation of the listing called "Blairsden one of the most elaborate and extensive schemes of its kind ever carried out in America." This table was formally part of the dining rooms complete redecoration by the architectural firm carried out in 1913. The room was originally planned around dark paneling and a warm even family-style catering to their children. The new rooms scheme was greatly enlarged and lightened up considerably by extensive plasterwork and painting in the Adams style. This table and a mate was used to center two opposing walls and complimented the inset painted panels and plasterwork ceiling which contained many references to swags, pateria, and other classical motifs. This table has been pictured in several period photographs and the house is extensively spoken of in the comprehensive book published in 2006 by Acanthus Press encompassing the principles ideals and the extent of there work especially in the Beaux-Arts...

Jonas Frist was a Swedish artist and designer, born in 1787, in Stockholm, Sweden and passed away in 1849. In 1805, Frist received the rights to design and produce mirrors and console tables by the Kommerskollegium. From 1810 - 1814, his studio was located on the street Storkyrkobrinken and from 1814 - 1824, he moved to the public square Riddarhustorget, in Gamla stan, in Stockholm. A fabulous pair of American mid-century sculptural paint decorated wooden console tables by the iconic luxury designer Phyllis Morris (United States; 1925-1988)
Executed in timeless mid-20th century glitz and glam Hollywood Regency Moderne taste, the rare, possibly custom one-of-a-kind design, having a demi-lune red lacquered top, over conforming fluted apron, rising on elegant carved figural swan form legs, terminating in claw and ball feet, finished in parcel gilt antiqued cream paint finish. Phyllis Morris was one of the design industry’s first multitaskers. She wore many hats: furniture designer, businesswoman, civic leader, legendary hostess, humanitarian, wife and mother.
Phyllis Morris is known for them all, but mostly that last one.
The legendary interior designer of the 1950s and ’60s wrote her own rules and lived a life as large and colorful as the designs she favored.
Morris began her design career in 1953 in Los Angeles, California by creating the "Poodle Lamp," a sculpture of her own poodle topped with a little flared shade. Dubbed “The Marilyn Monroe of the furniture industry” — she took charge of her destiny with her famous poodle lamp.
After sculpting the original, based on her own pink-dyed pup, Morris left it on consignment in a Beverly Hills shop. She had friends place orders for it; the shop asked for a dozen models, and Morris was in business. “I knew I was not a homemaker,” she said.
What transformed Morris from lamp designer to “designer to the stars” may have been her instinct for publicity. She reportedly delivered two of the lamps to Liberace, her first big-name customer, in a pink Cadillac convertible, while wearing a mink cape.
Morris was a pro at offering provocative quips or outrageous photo-ops, which often made headlines around the globe.
“My mom was a marketing genius,” says Morris’ daughter Jamie Adler, who now runs the brand and reintroduced the poodle lamp for Currey & Company last year. “She understood branding and how to get press. She was so brave and fearless as a woman in a male-dominated industry.”
At a time when most women stayed home, Morris was a furniture designer, businesswoman, civic leader, legendary hostess, humanitarian, wife and mother. “She was multitasking long before the word was invented,” Adler says.
With her colorful and eclectic interiors and over-the-top furnishings, Morris turned the interior design world upside-down, and celebrities came calling. She designed hotel suites frequented by Frank Sinatra, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Elvis. Her opulent canopied beds became a status symbol for the likes of Cher and Sonny Bono, the Who’s Keith Moon, Gladys Knight and Jerry Vale, according to a 1978 People magazine story.
