Åke Holm (Swedish, 1900-80) was one of Sweden’s leading ceramic artists in the 20th century. He worked at the Höganäs factory in his early years before opening his own studio in the area. Åke became a master of and glazing and often used biblical themes in his work, but always with a distinct modernist styling. He produced figurines and wall plaques with rustic and mythological expression and his work is getting the recognition it deserves for its unique quality and style. His monumetal stoneware sculptures of figures from the Bible as well as his wall plaques are now recognisd as some of the finest ceramics produced in Sweden in the second half of the Twentieth Century.
