Antique 1908 Sloan & Co. 14K Gold Rosary – Blessed by Pope Pius X Maker: Sloan & Co. Date: MCMVIII (1908) Metal: 14K gold (tested) Weight: 26.4 grams Length: Approx. 18.5" overall Wearable Length: Approx. 24" loop Beads: Alternating 7mm & 5.5mm Cross: Approx. 2" long Condition: Excellent antique condition; two beads with minor dents consistent with age Inscriptions: “MCMVIII” (1908); “Pio Papa X M.L.E.”; “SSDN” (abbrev. Sanctissimus Dominus Noster — “Our Most Holy Lord”) A beautifully preserved early 20th-century gold rosary attributed to Sloan & Co., a respected American maker known for quality workmanship during this period. Crafted entirely in solid 14k gold and weighing a substantial 26.4 grams, the piece features well-formed cable links and smoothly finished beads, demonstrating both durability and careful hand-finishing. The alternating bead sizes create a refined visual rhythm, while the crucifix displays crisp modeling of Christ against a softly matte ground. The reverse of the cross bears engraved inscriptions including the Roman numeral date MCMVIII (1908) alongside “Pio Papa X M.L.E.” and “SSDN.” These align with formal papal blessing conventions of the period. “SSDN” expands to "Sanctissimus Dominus Noster" (Our Most Holy Lord) while “M.L.E.” represents "Munere Litterarum Ecclesiasticarum", a Latin phrase that translates roughly to "by the office/duty of ecclesiastical letters [or documents]" or "through the function of church writings. There is a band stretched around the lower part of the egg and hanger parts modeled in solid Yellow 56/ 14K Gold. Antique miniature Passover Egg pendant made in Imperial Russia between the years 1898 - 1908. Body in solid Russian Chalcedony from famed deposits in the Ural Mountains mounted on 14K Gold hanger. The colors of this stone are a fuzzy mix of Grey, Blue, Lavender, Rose Pink, and Black. Bail hallmarked with Russian Imperial 56 on the bail, maker's hallmarks a bit fragmented "CE" . Initials of Егорнов Семен Матвеевич / S. M. Egornov, jeweler, owner of a workshop and shop in Moscow between 1884 - 1908. Worked with Gold, Silver, and Enamels. This rare pendant was made in Saint Petersburg between 1904 and 1908 by Carl Blank, jeweler of the Russian Imperial Court and Tsar Nicholas II. The pendant is finely crafted in matte platinum (front) and 14K gold (back). It features two excellent red spinels from Burma accented by old mine cut diamonds. The spinels were tested by Swiss Gemmological Institute in Basel (test report no. 87913) and found to be natural and untreated. Estimated total spinel weight is 2.70 carats. Approximate total diamond weight is 3.18 carats. In the early 1900s, platinum was an exotic metal. In Russia, it was rarely used in jewelry (not until 1930s). Apparently only jewelers of the Imperial court like Faberge, Bolin and Blank experimented with platinum.
