Superbloom

Located in West Hollywood, CA

"Superbloom" is made with acrylic, oil pastel, paper, glitter, thread and clay on canvas and paper mache. This bright and vividly colored sculptural painting is a perfect example of the power of unrestrained creativity. INSPIRATION BEHIND THE WORK - What began as an experiment in creating rose petals slowly evolved into this deconstructed "Superbloom". At the center of these petals is a seemingly chaotic arrangement of color and texture. Yet, from slow observation, patterns and repetition emerge. What can be easily grouped into a "whole" is actually a balancing act of orchestrated parts - the same as every living organism we observe. There is a mystery to be savored in every act of living - as well as in viewing the traces of life left behind. "Superbloom" was made in love of the former, and leaves behind the latter. We'll never fully understand all the bits of a rose, or all the brushstrokes of a painting, but we're always welcome to bask in the sunshine that is loving without knowing. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Los Angeles based artist, Megan Dune...

Remnants, Abstract Paper Sculpture, 2018

By Yoonshin Park

Located in Boston, MA

Artist Commentary: Remnants is a 3-part series with relief-like, sculptural pulp figures. Evolved from Finding Space, Remnants brings personal experience in unexpected incidents and uncontrollable situations into focus. This series narrates fragility and vulnerability. Handmade papers are layered as the accumulations of life and the traces of time. Stories from the past and the reminiscences are layered with another folds. Please reach out to us about purchasing 1 part of the series. Keywords: abstract, white, thread Artist Biography: Yoonshin Park is a Chicago based multimedia artist, curator, and educator working with sculptural papers, artist books, and installations. Her interest in the comprehensive process of papermaking and bookbinding caters her work to encompass various elements woven into complete objects. She often uses her experience as a foreign transplant to question space and its implications in defining one's identity as the inspiration behind her work. Park has shown at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Hyde Park Art Center...

Scale, vibrant, jewel-like, diaphanous strips of fabric collages

By Linda Schmidt

Located in New York, NY

Linda Kamille Schmidt plays with emotional connections and memory in her smaller, framed works. In their encasements, each collage appears as a portal; a well of both excitement and sentimentality. Her transparent and opaque fabrics mingle together with an almost casual ease. Schmidt’s hand is evident in the cut, placement, and suturing of each strip. The artist vacillates between precise machine and loose, wobbly hand-sewn stitches. Her subtle use of pins in the works act as focal points for the eye as it dances around the celebration of color and texture. As a result, her works refuse the sterility of manufacturing, and challenge the reductive elision of perfectionism and femininity. This sense of touch evokes a closeness with the fabric, almost inviting contact. A hot frenzy of geometric forms, Schmidt’s fabric swatches about and overlap to form a kaleidoscopic play with depth and recession. Coupled with the scale of these smaller pieces, Schmidt draws her viewer forward, and entices them to fall into her mesmerizing displays.  Linda Kamille Schmidt is originally from Kansas where she attended Bethel College and where most of her family still lives. She received an MA and MFA in drawing and painting from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  She has lived and worked in Brooklyn, NY, since 1989. Solo and Group shows have included AIR Gallery (New York, NY), Ann Street Gallery (Newburgh, NY), Art in Embassies (Kohor, Republic of Palau), Art Mora (Ridgefield Park, NJ; Seoul, South Korea; New York, NY), ArtPort Kingston (Kingston, NY), Carroll and Sons Gallery (Boston, MA), Chazou Gallery (British Columbia), Cheryl Hazen Gallery (New York, NY), Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center (New York, NY), Curious Matter (Jersey City, NJ), DeDee Shattuck Gallery (Westport, MA), Denise Bibro Fine Art (New York, NY), Main Window Dumbo (Brooklyn, NY), Port Washington...

By Julia Kiryanova

Located in Oslo, NO

For Julia Kiryanova, her artwork is a dialogue – a dialogue which she beautifully facilitates, layering her work with various techniques. At the heart of much of her work an inherent fascination for people lies, intimately displaying abandoned figures seemingly floating in an abstract dream world, where time has stopped everything, but them. Julia Kiryanova has exhibited work at Amsterdam museum, Museum Op Solder and The Holocaust Museum...

Surrealist Encaustic Painting, "Les Enfant D’Espoir Résilient"

Located in San Diego, CA

This is a one of a kind original surrealist figurative encaustic wax painting by San Diego artist, Tiffany Bociek. It's dimensions are 9"x9"x1.75". It comes framed. A certificate of authenticity will follow delivery. Artist Statement: In this piece, I wanted to create an environment that on the surface looks lovely: the colors are pretty, and the shapes feel inviting. This piece should give the viewer a sense of peace or hope. But I was also looking to explore an unarticulated sense of fear. The children head to a horizon of nothing. There are no trees, buildings, or any recognizable object. In fact, they are heading to unknown. The unknown can be our greatest fear. The fear of not knowing what is ahead of us can be debilitating, this type of fear can pull you back, keep you where you are. This type of fear can say to you: “It’s a scary world out there, better just stay where you are”. Instead of listening to the fear, these children represent the hope that it takes to continue to move forward relentlessly and resiliently. They are the part of us that represents the courage it takes to do thing in spite of pain, suffering, shame, or guilt. It takes courage...

CHROMASEEDS - Framed Mixed Media Painting of 3 Gaillardia w/ Blooms Falling

By Heather Hartman

Located in Signal Mountain, TN

CHROMASEEDS is a multilayered composition created with paper and tyvek cut-outs painted with oil, acrylic, and gouache, sealed with polyester mesh layers. The plants represented in the piece are Gaillardia flowers, commonly known as blanket flowers, native to North America and often bred for their decorative, ornamental shape. In her creative process, Hartman anthropomorphizes the flowers, paying attention to their dance-like growth movement. Here, their shadows dance in the prismatic light of the rainbow, while the wind catches their seeds, cultivating the garden. The vibrant, rainbow light was achieved by painting a prismatic shape on tyvec and black paper, creating a reverse silhouette...

This painting, titled "Dormant," is the Winter-inspired piece in the series. After the first frost of winter, all of the leaves of the kudzu plant fall off of the vine, leaving it limp and bare.
