Mirang Wonne
Raindrops 2424-2

About the Item

Double layers of stainless steel mesh acrylic painting on lower screen and torched on upper screen, mounted on canvas. Mirang Wonne is a prolific artist who uses innovative media and techniques. Her work is about the visual interpretation of the fragility of life. For the last three decades, Mirang Wonne has embodied natural forms in unexpected mediums. She uses primarily industrial materials that paradoxically amplify the organic intensity of those forms, capitalizing on their physical and optical peculiarities. Mirang Wonne has held solo exhibitions at venues such as Triton Museum in Santa Clara, De Saisset Museum in Santa Clara, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists Gallery, Pacific Heritage Museum in San Francisco, Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, Parc Floral de Vincennes in Paris, France, Gallery Sun Contemporary in Seoul, Korea and many other San Francisco Bay Area galleries. She has also participated in exhibitions at San Francisco Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, the Musee d’Art Moderne and Grand Palais in Paris, Musee de Lille in Lille, France, San Francisco Asian Art museum, San Francisco Fine Art Fair, San Francisco Art MRKT, LA Art Fair in Los Angeles, Palm Springs Modernism, Triton Museum in Santa Clara, Red Dot Art Fair in New York, Sung Gok Museum in Seoul, and Inchon Emigration Museum in Inchon. Mirang Wonne participated in several local and national public projects. Her recent major public project involved the newly constructed Stanford University Cancer Center in San Jose. She created one large 15’ by 12’ installation for the entrance lobby and 4 large two-dimensional paintings for each floor's reception area. Her work has been collected in a number of major museums and public spaces such as Palo Alto Medical Center, Kaiser Permanante, Ritz Carlton hotel, the Seoul City Museum, and Musee d’Art Moderne de Paris, France.

    By Atticus Adams
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Atticus Adams' organically composed modern metal sculptures embody the transformative power of contemporary wall art, illustrating the creation of beauty, meaning, and emotional impact from industrial materials. Using mostly aluminum mesh—generally found in screen doors, windows, and filters—he creates contemporary abstract sculptural artworks and installations, which resemble flowers, clouds, and other natural phenomena. Working in metal, Adams effortlessly transforms rigid material into airy, effervescent artworks. This circular 60-inch high by 60-inch wide and 4-inch deep metal sculpture is a lightweight form created from aluminum mesh, gesso, acrylic paint, and wire. It has metal rings affixed on the back which allows for easy installation. Atticus works spontaneously, feeling his way toward the objects that take shape in his mind as he shapes them almost entirely by hand. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Atticus grew up in West Virginia, steeped in traditional folk art. Several members of his family are self-taught artists, deeply involved in such crafts as wood carving and quilting. His formal art training includes stints at Yale, Rhode Island School of Design, and Harvard’s School of Architecture. Atticus has fond summer memories of screened-in porches back home and screen doors that practically dissolved the barrier between inside and outside, allowing the warmth and nature to permeate each day. This association continues to resonate in his art. “Metal mesh is a beautiful, flexible material that allows you to explore shadow and transparency in endless ways,” he says. “The material lends itself to these biomorphic shapes, which aren’t necessarily intentional . . . The sculptures seem fragile but are actually quite resilient—like nature itself.” A well-known sculptor, the organically inspired artworks of Atticus Adams are held in public and private collections and are exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States.
