This Teatro della Cometa Booklet, concerning the Sir John Gielgud 's Recital, reports the autograph dedication signed by John Gielgud to the Countess Pecci Blunt. "Rome, March 1960". Golden cover, unnumered pages, b/w illustrations, Excellent conditions. Sir John Gielgud 's Recital. An anthology of William Shakespeare. Selected piece from “The Ages of Man” anthology by George Rylands Sir Arthur John Gielgud (1904 – 2000) Sir Arthur Gielgud was an English actor and theatre director whose career spanned eight decades. With Ralph Richardson and Laurence Olivier, he was one of the trinity of actors who dominated the British stage for much of the 20th century, famous for his voice and his mastery of Shakespearean verse. Regarded by many as the finest Hamlet of his era, and was also known for high comedy roles such as John Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest. During the 1930s Gielgud was a stage star in the West End and on Broadway, appearing in new works and classics. He began a parallel career as a director, and set up his own company at the Queen's Theatre, London. From the late 1960s he found new plays that suited him, by authors including Alan Bennett, David Storey and Harold Pinter.

Raymond Pettibon: Homo Americanus (David Zwirner Books). Raymond Pettibon: A Pen of All Work (Massimialiano Gioni 2017). Exhibited: Raymond Pettibon, A Pen of All Work, The New Museum 2017 More on Raymond Pettibon: Raymond Pettibon is a contemporary American artist known for his stylized ink drawings combining images and text. His inventive narratives blend historical content with consumer culture to yield incisive critiques of contemporary society. “I was making my work as transparent as possible, without equivocations, without calling attention to itself, without apology,” he explained. “There's a lot of conventions in the art world that are not to be transgressed, but my economy of means doesn't abide by those strictures.” Born Raymond Ginn on June 16, 1957 in Tucson, AZ, the artist is self-taught, but cites drawings by William Blake, Edward Hopper, Francisco Goya, and John Sloan as instructive to his practice. Deriving inspiration from comics, cartoons, and other pop culture iconography, Pettibon began designing album covers and ephemera for his brother’s band Black Flag in the mid-1970s. He went on to produce cover art for Sonic Youth, the Minutemen...

Andy Warhol record art: Further Background: In the late 1950s, as the record industry began to expand at an extraordinary rate, Warhol was hired by both Columbia and RCA Records on a freelance basis to create album covers and promotional content and, from there, carried the skill throughout his career. When Warhol arrived in New York he met with his schoolmate George Klauber who was, at the time, working for a creative agency run by Will Burtin. Klauber did Warhol a favour and introduced him to Burtin and the opportunity to work with Columbia’s, and later RCA’s, art director Robert M. Jones. Robert M. Jones remembered it fondly and suggested that the commissions may have been his first: “I gave him three little spots to do for the corners of the standard albums. He needed money...

Located in NEW YORK, NY

1986 Andy Warhol record art featuring Debbie Harry. Featured prominently in 'Andy Warhol: The Record Covers, 1949-1987, a Catalog Raisonne' by Warhol scholar Paul Marechal. Off-set lithograph on vinyl record cover. 12 x 12 Inches (30.48 x 30.48 cm). Excellent condition. Includes original record (likewise excellent). Looks super cool framed. Further Background: Obsessed with celebrity, consumer culture, and mechanical reproduction, Pop Art king, Andy Warhol created some of the 20th century’s most iconic images. Warhol was widely influenced by popular & consumer culture, with this being evident in some of his most famous works: 32 Campbell's soup cans, Brillo pad box sculptures, and portraits of Marilyn Monroe & Mick Jagger, for example. Rejecting the standard painting and sculpting modes of his era, Warhol embraced silk-screen printmaking to achieve his characteristic hard edges and flat areas of color. The artist mentored Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat and continues to influence contemporary art around the world: His most bold successors include Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami, and Jeff Koons. Warhol has been the subject of exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, Tate Modern, and Centre Pompidou, among other institutions.
