André Elbaz (born April 26, 1934, El Jadida, Morocco) is a famous Moroccan painter and filmmaker.
Elbaz studied art and theatre in Rabat and Paris from 1950 to 1961. He started painting only at the age of 21, until which age he had been interested mainly in theatre. A few years later, he managed to combine his two passions into a new approach in art-therapy, inventing together with his wife, a psychiatrist, the Pictodrame, which brought him world recognition.
His first exhibition, which was very successful, took place in Casablanca in 1961 and earned him an appointment as Professor at the Beaux-Arts school in Casablanca. Years later, in 1976, he exhibited his paintings at the Tel-Aviv Museum.
In parallel to his career as a painter, Elbaz is also known as a filmmaker. He produced several short films in France, Canada and the United States. One of them, La nuit n'est jamais complète (The night is never complete), won a prize at the "5th Biennale de Paris in 1967" .[citation needed] Among the themes chosen for the many films he produced, there was a short one about the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, as well as a series of drawings entitled Seuls (Alone), with texts written by both Elie Wiesel...

A substantial oil painting showing two lovers reclining in a barge on a stream before a Persian palace crowned with domes and minarets; the pair elegantly dressed, with the young woman bejeweled and the young man playing a lute.
Born in Los Angeles, Leon D'Usseau began training under the guidance of his father, who was among the earliest fine art film directors in Hollywood. At the age of twelve, he was drawing seriously and, at fifteen, he received a working scholarship at Chouinard School of Art where he studied under Merrill Gage and Alexander Archipenko and also taught a line-drawing class.
Adopting the anglicized brush-name of Dusso, he exhibited widely and with success including at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1937-40), the California Palace Legion of Honor (1941), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (1942), the Laguna Festival of Arts, Los Angeles Artists Association (1945), the California Watercolor Society (1946) and the Audubon Association (1945). For Dray, Philosophy deals in the abstract and abstraction is an indispensable tool in art and culture. Through his paintings, he reasserts that abstraction has been a part of humanity, all cultures in all ages. It’s an indispensable tool, as we create symbols, vessels to fill with allusions and messages. The resulting artwork have a strong sense of purpose.
Each painting contains hundreds of hand coloured trapezoid shapes, hand drawn with a sharp blade onto silver or gold leaf. Each coloured shape can be interpreted to represent an ‘atomic’ element. On its own a block of colour is insignificant but seen as part of a whole it becomes dynamic and alive reflecting on how nature works. The phenomena of light is also important to the work. The light of the sun in a room illuminates and reflects off the paintings as they come alive and change through time.

About the Series:
For Dray, Philosophy deals in the abstract and abstraction is an indispensable tool in art and culture. Through his paintings, he reasserts that abstraction has been a part of humanity, all cultures in all ages. It’s an indispensable tool, as we create symbols, vessels to fill with allusions and messages. The resulting artwork have a strong sense of purpose.
Each painting contains hundreds of hand coloured trapezoid shapes, hand drawn with a sharp blade onto silver or gold leaf. Each coloured shape can be interpreted to represent an ‘atomic’ element. On its own a block of colour is insignificant but seen as part of a whole it becomes dynamic and alive reflecting on how nature works. The phenomena of light is also important to the work. The light of the sun in a room illuminates and reflects off the paintings as they come alive and change through time.

Benjamin Dray is an artist based in Sydney, Australia. He completed his formal art education in Australia and has painted continuously for the last 30 years living and working in his studio home on Scotland Island...
