Louis Prang (March 12, 1824 – September 14, 1909) was an American printer, lithographer, publisher, and Georgist. He is sometimes known as the "father of the American Christmas card".
Prang's early activities in the US publishing architectural books and making leather goods were not very successful, and he began to make wood engravings for illustrations in books. In 1851 he worked for Frank Leslie, art director for Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion, and later with John Andrew. In 1851, he married Rosa Gerber, a Swiss woman he had met in Paris in 1846.
In 1856, Prang and a partner created a firm, Prang and Mayer, to produce lithographs. The company specialized in prints of buildings...

Period yacht racing is a rare and desirable subject for marine paintings, and a 19th century work from Australia of this prime subject is among the rarest finds we may offer. The artist, Charles F. Gerrard, shows up in 1882 on the Sydney professional trade list as a painter, then as a marine artist and finally as simply 'artist'. He exhibits his first works with the Royal Art Society in Sydney in 1884, consisting of coastal scenes. He is extremely well received by his contemporaries according to newspaper reports.
The recognizable features of "The Rocks", along the western shore of Sydney cove near the harbor bridge, stands forth as a superb background for the racing yachts. This historic location is the foundation of the British Australian empire, and today is the oldest preserved colonial district in the country, described as "Sydney's outdoor museum".
Fine-lined cutter yachts compete over a sailing course, with two shown in great close detail while five more hold their positions in the regatta, as the rhythmic small swells are evidence the wind favors the leaders running on close reaches with the crossing tide. The crew and yachts are very much in the British formal yachting manner, with full uniforms and the plum-bow hulls. PAIL Edouard (1851-1916) School of Crozant - Post-Impressionist. French painter born in Corbigny, October 17, 1851 and died in Villeneuve-le-Roi on December 6, 1916. Student of local painter and engraver Hippolyte Lavoignat at the School of Fine Arts in Nevers. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1870, at the age of nineteen, two landscape paintings: Le Ruisseau de Varennes near Corbigny and Les Chaumes de Corbigny. In 1877, he became a professor at the School of Fine Arts in Nevers. Then he abandoned this position to join Paris in 1880. He then undertook trips to England, Egypt, Palestine and Algeria. He exhibits every year at the Paris Salon. In 1888, he was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français. He obtained a medal in 1893. In 1896, he was appointed Academy Officer. In 1903, he became an Officer of Public Instruction. In 1912, he exhibited at the Salon Le soir at Mont Sabot and in 1914 L'Éang aux bruyères. His favorite subjects are pastures and heather, backyards, shaded rivers, pink and misty panoramas. They are treated in clean tones and a palette dominated by greens and browns.
