Duino Elegies study

By Richard Mann

Located in Wilton Manors, FL

Richard Mann (1940-1990). Duino Elegies, 1981. Mixed media on rag paper, consisting of 3 sheets, each measuring 18 x 24 inches. Each vertical edge is hinged with mounting tape, resulting in a triptych presentation. Entire measurement: 24 x 54 inches w. Unsigned. Biography: Playwright, poet and visual artist, Rev. Richard Mann was born and educated in Melbourne Australia. At the height of America's counter-cultural revolution, Mann moved to New York City where he lived and worked in Harlem. He was influenced by surrealism, abstract expressionism, and calligraphy at the time of his arrival. Beginning in the mid-1970's, the extreme living conditions of Harlem and demands of his religious calling provided subject matter for his painting. Urban decay and ubiquitous public graffiti provide inspiration for compositions that include highly stylized writing. By the late 1970's many works incorporate writing exclusively, with areas of layered, obscured and illegible words, very much like repeatedly tagged walls. Education: Studied painting with Maurice Cantlon, Melbourne, Australia 1961-62. Liberal Arts Studies, Christ the King...

Deluxe Hand Signed Lt Ed Olympic Diver in Swimming Pool coveted lithograph w/COA

By David Hockney

Located in New York, NY

"Water in swimming pools changes its look more than any other form. If the water surface is almost still and there is a strong sun, then dancing lines with the color of the spectrum appear everywhere." - - David Hockney David Hockney Offset Lithograph poster (Deluxe Hand Signed Limited Edition) on Parsons Diploma Parchment Paper, accompanied by COA from the Publisher and Olympic Committee 36 × 24 inches Pencil signed and unnumbered from the Edition of 750 (there was a separate, larger unsigned edition) Unframed Also accompanied by gallery issued Certificate of Guarantee One of the most coveted, historic and popular David Hockney limited editions created - beloved by American and international collectors alike: The official edition of this work is 750, but the publisher famously destroyed unsold editions after the Olympic Games and only about 200-250 are said to remain. This hand signed limited edition iconic Hockney work was printed as one of the fifteen Official Fine Art Olympic Posters for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. (the XXIII'rd Olympiad). It depicts an aerial view of a swimmer under rippling water broken up into 12 squares. A statement released by the 1984 Olympic committee explains the set as follows - "The posters commissioned for the 1984 Olympics contain an enlightened selection of the best American artists with special emphasis on those who work in Southern California...As the Games develop, transpire and pass into memory, these fifteen posters contain the images, forms and symbols that will represent the 1984 Olympics in the museums, galleries, homes and the minds of people all over the world.” This work is NOT to be confused with the ubiquitous plate signed poster of the same image, which was printed on different paper in an open edition.) In 1982, the Olympic Committee commissioned 15 artists to create posters for the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. Hockney designed this offset lithograph depicting Olympic swimming. It was printed on Parsons Diploma Parchment paper in 1982, in an edition of 750, hand signed in pencil by the artist. Even though this print was published in an edition of 750, after the first marketing blitz, the publisher destroyed the remaining portfolios of signed prints - literally discarding hundreds of them in the dumpster. The Olympic Committee commissioned these portfolios to celebrate and promote the 1984 Olympics, and nobody expected the individual prints to have such enduring value. As the executives running the short-term promotional campaign were neither prophets nor curators, they saw no reason to hold on to these huge prints...

Jean-Michel Basquiat A TRIBUTE: Important Paintings, Drawings, & Objects: Vintage original 1990s Basquiat announcement card to: Jean-Michel Basquiat at Tony Shafrazi Gallery, New York, September 21 - November 23, 1996. Cover image features a reproduction of Basquiat's Dust Heads (1982). Off-set printed gallery announcement. 7.5 x 6.25 inches (folded closed). Very good overall vintage condition. Some light rub marks to reverse. Published by Tony Shafrazi Gallery, New York, 1996. Unsigned from an edition of unknown. Jean-Michel Basquiat’s dramatic life and iconic paintings—which variously feature obsessive scribbling, enigmatic symbols and diagrams, and iconography including skulls, masks, and the artist’s trademark crown—make him one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. The self-taught painter embraced graffiti before committing to a studio practice. He found a mentor and friend in Andy Warhol, who helped the young artist navigate the 1980s New York art world. Across his oeuvre, Basquiat drew on his own Caribbean heritage; a convergence of African American, African, and Aztec cultural histories; classical themes; and pop cultural figures including athletes and musicians. The immediacy and intellectual depth of his paintings won him widespread acclaim both before and after his untimely death at the age of 27. Related Categories Basquiat Bruno Bischofberger. Untitled (Walking Dog), Collage in Original Tin Frame by Rodolfo Morales

Untitled (Walking Dog), Collage in Original Tin Frame by Rodolfo Morales

Located in Palm Springs, CA

A charming and characteristic mixed-media collage by Mexican master Rodolfo Morales (1925–2001), featuring a stylized black dog set against a shimmering silver ground and surrounded by hearts, flowers, and textile elements. Morales is celebrated for his dreamlike blend of folk tradition, magical realism, and Oaxacan village imagery, and dogs appear frequently among his recurring motifs. This work is constructed from layered papers, ribbon, foil, and applied decorative materials, all housed in its original hand-tooled tin frame. The frame is stamped “Tirso Cuevas”, identifying one of the well-known Oaxacan tinsmiths who collaborated with Morales during the 1980s–1990s on his collage-mounted works. Signed “Rodolfo Morales” at lower right. Medium: Mixed-media collage (paper, foil, ribbon, applied materials) Support: Artist’s original tin frame, stamped Tirso Cuevas Period: c. 1980s–1990s Signature: Signed lower right Condition: Very good, with expected minor surface irregularities inherent to Morales’ collage technique and original tinwork Provenance: Private collection, USA A delightful example of Morales’s playful, folk-surrealist sensibility — rich in color, texture, and the poetic spirit of Oaxaca. About the Artist Rodolfo Morales is widely regarded as a pillar of modern Mexican art, alongside Rufino Tamayo and Francisco Toledo. Born in Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca, he developed a unique language of floating figures, vivid color, and architectural reminiscence grounded in Mexican folklore. His collages, in particular, display an extraordinary fusion of surrealist sensibility and vernacular craft traditions, incorporating lace, tin, antique paper, textiles, and devotional materials. Morales’ works are held in major private and public collections worldwide and continue to command strong interest among collectors of Latin American Modernism, Magical Realism, and Oaxacan art.

By Sam Francis

Located in Östermalm, Stockholms län

Artwork size: 67 x 51 cm. Frame size: 112 x 97 cm. Free shipment worldwide. Archive number SF 89-153 in the Sam Francis Foundation. Stamped with the Sam Francis Estate logo and stamped signature on verso. Sam Francis’s paintings are a journey into a dream, a voyage into the landscapes of the soul where colours are lights on fire. Alongside names such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline, Sam Francis is an artist who has succeeded in demonstrating a total mastery of abstract expressionism’s impassioned and spontaneous genre. The explosions of colour – red, blue, green and yellow – the streaks, strokes and bold lines of his pictures are the physical synthesis of the deepest crevices of the soul. His colours create rhythmical motifs that, characteristically enough, can be called the “musicality” of his paintings. The work of Sam Francis provides a visible meeting place for the conscious and the unconscious. His pictures are the cross-fertilisation of what has already been experienced with what exists still only as desire, a struggle between melancholy and merrymaking. Influenced by C.G. Jung, the father of psychoanalysis, Sam Francis spent a large portion of his life exploring the premise that dreams, instincts and intuition provide, the keys which unlock the mysteries and meaning of our inner lives. He was also fascinated by the four ancient elements – earth, water, air and fire – which developed into a leitmotif in his work. Sam Francis was born in San Mateo in California, USA in 1923. After starting to paint at the age of around twenty, he soon found himself increasingly consumed by the power of art. He spent much of the 1950s in Paris, from where he not only made frequent excursions to a number of European cities, but also embarked on many journeys to South America and Asia. He continued to move from place to place, primarily in the USA and Japan, right up until his death in 1994. Sam Francis’s first...

Basquiat: Vrej Baghoomian gallery New York, 1989: Vintage original folding announcement card to Jean-Michel Basquiat at Vrej Baghoomian Gallery New York: 10/21 to 11/25, 1989. Pictured on front side is an image of Basquiat's iconic, 'Red Warrior.' A rare, highly collectible Basquiat ephemera piece that works well in any collection. Off-set printed gallery announcement. 8.75 x 5.75 inches (folded closed). Light signs of handling; otherwise very good overall vintage condition. Published by Vrej Baghoomian Gallery, New York, 1989. Unsigned from an edition of unknown. Scarce. Jean-Michel Basquiat rose to success during the 1980s. Basquiat’s paintings are largely responsible for elevating graffiti artists into the realm of the New York gallery scene. His spray-painted crowns and scribbled words referenced everything from his Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage, to political issues, pop-culture icons, and Biblical verse. The gestural marks and expressive nature of his work not only aligned him with the street art of Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, but also the Neo-Expressionists Julian Schnabel and David Salle. “If you wanna talk about influence, man, then you've got to realize that influence is not influence,” he said of his process. After quickly rising to fame in the early 1980s, Basquiat was befriended by many celebrities and artists, including Andy Warhol, with whom he made several collaborative works. At only 27, his troubles with fame and drug addiction led to his tragic death from a heroin overdose on August 12, 1988 in New York, NY. The Whitney Museum of American Art held the artist’s first retrospective from October 1992 to February 1993. Related Categories: Basquiat Tony Shafrazi. Basquiat ephemera. Basquiat poster.
