Son of Lubomir and Lucyna née Bartłomiejczyk. He was an alumnus of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Student of the Warsaw University of Technology In 1966 he emigrated to New York City in the United States. In the 1970s, he moved to Easton, Connecticut where he lived until his death in 2018. He fought as a soldier of Polish Home Army through all the 63 days of Warsaw Uprising. He was a commander of anti-tank unit. He witnessed the death of his younger brother and many friends. He cooperated with designers like Henryk Jędrasiak, Mieczysław Naruszewicz i Hanna Orthwein. He created popular porcelain figurines and "Ina" and "Dorota" coffee sets, which were exhibited at the International Exhibition of the Board of the Industrial Designers’ Association (ICSID) in Paris in 1963. Arbre-monde III by Cécile Raynal - sandstone sculpture, pigments, birds, tree
Located in Paris, FR
Arbre-monde III is a unique smoke-fired sandstone sculpture by French contemporary artist Cécile Raynal, dimensions are 85 × 44 × 25 cm (33.4 × 17.3 × 9.8 in). This sculpture is a unique piece signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This highly narrative sculpture depicts a tree inhabited by various symbolic elements perched among its branches—birds, a wolf, a hare, and even a human hand. In recent years, animals have become increasingly prominent in Cécile Raynal’s artistic universe: "All kinds of beasts and hybrid forms populate my work. Chimeras, constructed by elective affinities between animal figures and human," she writes in Memories of Embers (Éditions Privat, 2018). More recently, however, the vegetal world has found a place in her sculptures, through representations of trees or the “vegetalization” of human and animal forms with branching elements. This evolution plays a central role in the present work. “The title of this series naturally echoes the novel by Richard Powers...

Nigella with Black Dryad
Located in New Orleans, LA
Carmen Almon uses copper sheeting, brass tubing, steel wire and enamel paint to create exquisite botanical sculptures. She captures the fragility of a moment in time by interpreting particular plants based on her memories of them. “These botanical compositions seem to defy their sheet-metal origins to come alive. Branches bend, vines loop, leaves twist, and a few surprising bugs, from butterflies to beetles, drop in to colonize her plants.” Through her work, one is reminded of the beautifully illustrated botanical books of the 17th and 18th century – Linneaeus, Ehret, Redouté – which Carmen often refers to for inspiration. Each piece takes up to twelve weeks to complete, therefore, few are realized each year making them rare treasures. In reference to our human connection to flowers, Carmen states, “Romance, marriage, funerals. Subconsciously, they represent so many things, innocent beauty, courage in the face of obstacles and continuity in the cycle of life and death. When I work on a plant, I am often thinking of this.” Almon grew up in Barcelona and Washington DC and resides in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her works are exhibited at the Chinese Porcelain Gallery, NY; and Octavia Art Gallery...

"El Tren" Ceramic, Glaze, Colors, Mexican Folk Art, Four Sections
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY "El Tren" is a whimsical and playful rendition of a train. It is beautifully glazed in various colors. This particular ceramic was from the collection of Jane and Richard Knight’s Estate. Jane Knight was a famous fiber and textile artist. Richard was a photographer who worked for Eliel Saarinen and Alexander Girard. The Knights and Girard became close friends and it was Girard who gifted “Santa Cruz De Las Huertas Jalisco” to the Knights. Alexander Girard left his personal collection to the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, NM. The Girards eventually amassed a collection of more than 106,000 objects from across the globe. Their 1978 gift of this collection to the Museum of International Folk art quintupled the size of their collection and prompted the construction of a new wing, which opened in 1982 and houses a mere 10% of the Girard Collection in the permanent exhibition Multiple Visions: A Common Bond, which was designed by Alexander Girard himself. This collection includes numerous multiples and is notable for its great breadth, including traditional arts, popular arts, and paper ephemera. “I believe we should preserve this evidence of the past, not as a pattern for sentimental imitation,” Girard once said, “but as nourishment for the creative spirit of the present.” Indeed, folk art was an important inspiration for Girard’s design work. The renowned Candelario Medrano...

Poisson En Mission"- Serving Bowl (Hand-Painted, Gold Luster, Fish, Durer)

Melanie Sherman "Poisson En Mission" - Serving Bowl (Hand-Painted, Gold Luster, Fish, Durer, Dürer, Made to Order) Porcelain, Glaze, Overglaze, Vintage Flower Decal, German Platinum and 24k German Gold Luster Year: 2023 Size: Height 4.25in x Diameter 9in (approx.) Signed by hand COA provided Ref.: 924802-1809 *Made to Order Every piece is unique, design might differ slightly Customization possible **Lead time approx. 2 weeks for qty 1-3 495 780 Her work references exclusive and precious porcelain wares from 18th-century Europe. In her work she tries to capture the qualities for which porcelain has been known since its discovery in China: whiteness, translucency, and resonance. She is attracted to the enameled and lustered surfaces of the Baroque, Renaissance and Rococo porcelain designs, as well as to elaborations on structural elements of these time periods. She is investigating surface decorations and embellished shapes in order to gain more knowledge for my own studio practice. Sherman is interested in incorporating and referencing historic drawings, motives, and patterns into her work. Studying the history of ceramics Sherman has been captivated by the relationship between East and West, and how they continue to influence each other, especially through the ceramic arts. Although there might be considerable differences between the two civilizations, the cultural exchange between them is an important connector of history and has produced a long and rich exchange of ideas between artists and makers. Asian craft traditions have been handed down to the West and the handmade aspect, even within the factory setting, is still an important concept that allows for control of design and quality by the artist, which is essential within craft of the West.
