If it was genuine it would be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. Our initial estimation is that it might have been a piece that was finished by a student of his. The quality is excellent and the stretcher bars on the reverse are, I believe, in keeping with the ones that Constable bought. Whilst this is very common nowadays, it has an old reline so the original canvas is not visible. Without doing the background research and getting the official authentication we are only comfortable in describing it as 'After'. John Constable Constable was born in East Bergholt, Suffolk on 11 June 1776 and attended a school in Lavenham and his father hoped he would enter the church.
