Juan Sellán Furniture

Juan Sellán was a natural silversmith Madrid, with extensive documentation on their marriages, children, etc. in the Parish of San Sebastian in this city. He married in 1823 and his paternal grandfather, with whom he shared his name, was a native of Sierph in France, while his maternal grandfather was a native of New València de Indias. Sellán was known to be active during the second third of the 19th century and was one of the main figures of the romantic silverware Madrid, although he also similarly did some work to the last stage of the Royal Factory Platerías Martínez style, who trained him and worked with him to pass the exam in 1831. He applied for joining the guild of silversmiths in 1842. His works are retained in numerous private collections, including institutions like the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Madrid, the History Museum, the Parish of San Sebastián, the Church of Santa María del Castillo Perales de Tajuña and the Parish of San Pedro de Sigüenza.
