RARE MARVELOUS MODERNISM! REMBRANDT MCM LAMP! "Twilight Zone" " "Third From The Sun" HISTORIC MID CENTURY LIGHTING! ATOMIC AWESOME! DIMENSIONS: HEIGHT: 38.5" SHADE: 19" MILK GLASS DIFFUSER FABRIC SHADE WITH TEXTURED GOLD FOIL LINING CIRCA 1953 WOW! THIS IS IT! The famous wildly modern Rembrandt lamp featured in the 1960 Twilight Zone episode "Third From The Sun". In this the 14th episode of Rod Serling's Sci-Fi masterpiece two scientists plan to escape their doomed world which is about to have a nuclear war. This modernist Rembrandt lamp was used in the lead character's home, right next to some modern art, to help present an otherworldly & futuristic decor. The viewers don't know that this world is not Earth until the end of the show, but the futuristic decor, unusual camera angles and unusual vehicle sounds were subtle hints! A timeless part of television history and a coup for Rembrandt lamp designers to be chosen to depict the most advanced lamp design! This lamp was expensive new and production was never as high as their lesser quality competition. The result is that now these lamps are becoming impossible finds. The few owners privileged enough to own one never let them go. They are far too cool! Now that brash mid century optimism and outrageousness makes them even more wonderful than when they were new! This one is in very fine vintage condition with all the expected patina and minor blemishes time takes on metal, glass, wood and enamel. The fabric lamp shade with its gold foil textured lining is lost technology that would be impossible to reproduce today at any price and is also in very fine vintage condition. This showpiece lamp features a giant "Mogul" socket which was used in most floor lamps and large table lamps prior to 1955, One will be provided with the lamp, and they are still available. Art Nouveau Inspired Metal Sculptural Lotus Lamp with Stained Glass Shade DIMENSIONS: 28" TALL x 16" WIDE This marvelous lotus themed lamp with sculptured metal flowers and leaves in a metal container with a wood base. These are illuminated by a single socket on an adjustable "stem" permitting an inch or two adjustment of the magnificent glass shade which continues the floral theme! The cameo glass shade is green hued when unlit, matching the metal sculptured lotus plant, but transforms to a lovely golden hue when lit, casting a carefully crafted "sunlight" upon the metal blossoms! Rare and Striking! Art Deco Metal & Brass Articulating Desk Lamp With Faux Leather Enamel Circa 1939 At the time of the New York World's Fair of 1939, designers architects and engineers were all inspired to bring about and summon "The Future!" This extremely rare lamp is a great example of the designs, ideas and aesthetic of this momentous period! Here an articulating brass banded drum shade swivels on a great expansive brass arch! Arches added a sense of drama and importance to an object and were used very successfully in this time period to bring both formality and dynamism to furnishings! This drum shade beams light where desired and it is covered with an enamel pattern designed to look like leather. This element is very rare and is one of the first industrial age examples of decorating metals and plastics with "natural" patterns. This would become fairly common place decades later as the "wood" trim on cars was decorative plastic and before that, contact paper was introduced to a design conscious public. At this time, several extremely high end desk lamp designs featured leather wrappings, particularly those coming out of Europe, who were still employing more handmade furnishings. So this design feature was not just a random whim, but an effort to convey "old world" imagery to a very industrialized product. Now, almost 85 years later, as most leather wrapped lamps...
