French Art-deco-orientalist Spelter of a Nude Young Maiden, Attributed to Hottot

By Louis Hottot

Located in Los Angeles, CA

An Imposing fine and large French Art-Deco Spelter (Petit-bronze) figure of a standing semi-nude orientalist maiden in a brown patina, attributed to Louis Hottot (French, 1834-1905). The smiling young topless beauty, posing with her arms outstretched, her hair wrapped with a headscarf centred with a green art-glass bead and a scantily scarf tied around her waist, standing barefoot among tropical shrubs and flowers and raised on a circular mottled green marble base. A brass plaque reads "TYPHA", Paris, circa 1900. Louis Hottot was a French sculpture who mainly specialized in Orientalist female figures and other Orientalist subjects and themes, most of his works were produced in spelter. He exhibited his works at the Paris Salon from 1885 to 1898. Hottot is best known for his Orientalist-themed sculptures, including Almie du Caire, circa 1887 and Fille d'Egypte, circa: 1885. He was a member of the Socie´te´ des Artistes Franc¸ais. Literature: Les Bronzes du XIXe Siecle, P. Kjellberg, Les Editions de L'amateur, Paris. S. Richemond, Les Orientalistes...

Murano Art Glass Strawberry Paperweight Sculpture with Controlled Bubbles
Murano Art Glass Strawberry Paperweight Sculpture with Controlled Bubbles

Murano Art Glass Strawberry Paperweight Sculpture with Controlled Bubbles

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

A beautifully executed Murano-style art glass strawberry sculpture, hand-blown in crystal-clear glass with suspended controlled air bubbles and a sculptural folded stem. The organic form captures the essence of a ripe strawberry while remaining distinctly modernist in its interpretation. The substantial body is crafted from thick, heavy glass with dozens of evenly dispersed bubbles encased within the form, creating movement and luminosity from every angle. The elegantly folded leaf crown and rounded stem are expertly pulled and shaped while hot, showcasing the skill of the glassblower. This piece functions equally well as a paperweight, tabletop sculpture, or decorative accent. Its transparent quality allows it to interact beautifully with natural light, making it especially striking on a bookshelf, cocktail table, or curated cabinet display. While unsigned, the design strongly recalls Italian Murano production from the mid-to-late twentieth century, particularly pieces produced by workshops associated with the organic fruit forms popularized by makers such as Venini, Seguso, and Fratelli Toso. Without a signature or label, it is most appropriately cataloged as "Murano-style" or "attributed to Murano." The clarity, weight, and controlled bubble inclusions make this a sophisticated example of Italian-inspired studio glass. Condition Very good vintage condition with light age-appropriate wear. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Minor surface wear consistent with display and handling. This piece works beautifully in: A stack of art and design books on a coffee table A kitchen vignette alongside vintage majolica fruit pieces A Palm Beach or Hollywood Regency interior A contemporary bookshelf as a sculptural accent A luxury bar cart paired with crystal and silver A collection of Murano glass fruit and vegetable...
