A very nice vintage California studio pottery ceramic vase by Catalina Pottery, circa 1930s. Great look and form on this gorgeous robin egg blue and white vessel. The piece is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks and measures 3.5"D x 5.75"H. Hard to find piece of Catalina Pottery! #4359 Catalina Pottery (or Catalina Island Pottery) is the commonly used name for Catalina Clay Products, a division of the Santa Catalina Island Company, which produced brick, tile, tableware and decorative pottery on Santa Catalina Island, California. Catalina Clay Products was founded in 1927 by William Wrigley, Jr. of the Wrigley chewing gum family. He built a tile and brick pottery factory on a beach located near Avalon, Santa Catalina Island. The new pottery became Catalina Clay Products, a division of Wrigley's Santa Catalina Island Company. The pottery used local clays from the Island and had two business purposes: to produce clay building products and to provide the much needed year-round employment for Island residents. Gladding, McBean & Co. acquired all of the assets of the company in 1937 and moved all production to its Franciscan dinnerware...

This is a black-glazed boat-shaped pottery made in the late Edo period of Japan. This will be a hanging vase. Pour water directly into this and decorate the flowers. Also, perhaps this is a pottery called Seto-yaki. Seto is an ancient kiln located in Aichi Prefecture. Various shapes and colors were produced there, and in the late Edo period, dark glazed pottery was also produced. When a dark brown glaze is applied, the areas with thick glaze look black, and the areas with thin glaze look brown. Nayarit Fertility Female Figure With Child Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A seated terracotta female figure from the shaft tomb tradition, shown cradling an infant over her right shoulder - likely a symbolic representation of fertility, maternity, and the continuity of life. This expressive red-slipped sculpture is boldly modeled with exaggerated limbs and stylized facial features, impressed eyes, a broad nose adorned with a septum piercing, and ear ornaments. Her elaborate coiffure is incised with vertical striations and rises into a high crest, pierced at the top with a vent hole connecting to the hollow interior. Manganese blooms across the surface attest to its long burial. Such figures were ritually interred in shaft tombs to accompany the dead, offering symbolic protection or ensuring rebirth in the afterlife.
