Placido Zuloaga, an Extremely Rare Spanish Gold and Silver Damascened Frame
By Plácido Zuloaga 1
Located in Queens, NY
Placido Zuloaga, An extremely rare Spanish gold and silver damascened window frame, in the Alhambra / Islamic taste, circa 1880. The interior is lined and fitted with an orientalist artwork throughout. Signed PZ on the reverse. Placido Zuloaga was a renowned Spanish metalworker and damascene artist known for his exceptional skills in working with gold and silver and for creating intricate and ornate designs on metal surfaces using a technique called damascening. One of Zuloaga's works is this rare gold and silver damascened frame that he created in the late 19th century. The frame is decorated with intricate designs in silver and gold, creating a stunning contrast that is characteristic of Zuloaga's work. The frame is a remarkable example of Zuloaga's artistry and skill, as well as his mastery of the damascening technique. The technique involves inlaying silver or gold wire into the surface of the metal, creating intricate and detailed designs that are both beautiful and durable. Zuloaga's work was highly sought after during his lifetime and is still highly valued today. His pieces are considered to be some of the finest examples of damascene artistry in the world, and his legacy continues to inspire and influence metalworkers and artists today. His works are in private collections and in museums worldwide. Comparative Literature: James D. Lavin, The Art and Tradition of the Zuloagas, Spanish Damascene...

17th Century Charles II Month Going Marquetry Longcase Clock by John Wise
Located in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom
A superb Charles II month duration floral marquetry longcase clock by the well-known maker John Wise, c. 1680-85. Measure: 10". The case is of the highest quality and decorated throughout in very attractive floral marquetry depicting spring flowers and birds showing a high level of sophistication with a glazed circular lenticle to the door. Similarly, the rising hood is decorated with blind frets around the top and surmounted by a shallow caddy decorated by five gilt wooden ball finials. It is flanked by prominent gilt brass-capped solid barley twist columns, with blind fretted panels to the sides. The month-going nicely finned and knopped five pillar movement has reversed going and striking trains, the striking train (on the right) being regulated by a small outside countwheel. The going train has anchor escapement and a seconds pendulum. The movement is fronted by a 10-inch brass dial with an unusual narrow silvered chapter ring, seconds ring and date aperture. It has elaborate cherub-head spandrels in the corners and is signed along the bottom John Wise Londini Fecit. The middle is finely matted, whilst the time is indicated by a fine pair of blued-steel hands, the hour hand richly pierced. The maker John Wise was born in Banbury shortly before 17 March 1624, the date of his baptism. He was the son of John and Ann Wise and a cousin of Joseph Knibb...

Geo III Wedgwood and Steel Mounted Amboyna and Ebony Writing Box, c1800
Located in valatie, NY
The hinged rectangular top with three oval Signed Wedgwood plaques depicting putti at various pursuits within oval paterae mounted swagged and beaded borders, opening to a morocco leather lined hinged slope enclosing a well, the upper section fitted with candlesticks and compartmentalized for inkwells, above a hinged lid the front with a spring loaded secret drawer opening to a needle or pincushion and spools of thread. This unusual work box, mounted with blue and white jasperware signed Wedgwood plaques, is English in conception. The writing box was a popular form first used in the 18th c and well into the 19th c for traveling. This type of portable desk was described by the English poet William Cowper in 1785 as 'the most elegant, the compactest, the most commodious desk in the world.' Additionally, the jasperware plaques, came from Josiah Wedgwood's factory in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. Its proximity to the steel manufacturing city of Birmingham, the birthplace of Matthew Boulton, producer of decorative metalwork (including cut steel mounts) and described by his friend and fellow-industrialist, Josiah Wedgwood, as 'the first Manufacturer in England', certainly suggests an English origin and possibly his handwork. However, the polished steel mounts are also typical of furniture and objects made in Tula, Russia, where the Imperial Arms Factory was founded by Peter the Great in the early 18th c and which later became known for its decorative objects, including furniture and domestic pieces. Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia, ordered the 'Frog Service...

Vintage Synchronome Electric Copper Cased Railway Waiting Room Wall Clock
Located in Nottingham, GB
Vintage Reclaimed Industrial Copper Wall Clock by Synchronome A stunning little industrial clock made in England circa 1930 by The Synchronome Company Ltd. Synchronome were the preeminent clock maker throughout the early & mid 20th century, commercially producing the most accurate electric clocks globally despite strong competition from companies such as Gents of Leicester.  Stunning stepped copper case retaining its wonderful original aged patination. The attractive aged hand painted dial bearing Roman Numeral indices and the Synchronome Electric makers marks. The clock currently retains its original 30 second impulse movement which we can run via a impulse driver which would mimic the original master the clock would of ran from, alternatively we can convert the original hands to run from a modern high torque battery quartz movement. The artists figure in the images is 6ft 1" to give a representation of scale.  Technical Details Movement Type Single AA Battery Powered Quartz Clock face width 240 mm (9.5 Inch) Overall Width 295 mm (11.5 Inch) Depth 75 mm (3 inch) Weight 1.5 kg Colour / Materials Copper, Glass, Aged White The Synchronome Company The Synchronome Company, established in 1895 by Frank Hope-Jones and George Bennett Bowell, became one of Britain’s most influential manufacturers of precision electric clocks. Specialising in master clock systems, Synchronome revolutionised timekeeping with their innovative mechanisms, which distributed accurate time signals across large networks. Their clocks found widespread use in observatories, railway stations, and public buildings, becoming synonymous with reliability and precision. One of their crowning achievements was the development of the Shortt–Synchronome free pendulum clock, created in collaboration with horologist William Hamilton Shortt. Released in the 1920s, this was the most accurate pendulum clock of its time and was used as the primary time standard in many observatories worldwide, solidifying Synchronome’s reputation for technical excellence. Rivalry with Gents of Leicester Synchronome’s rise to prominence brought them into fierce competition with another titan of the industry—Gents of Leicester. Both companies vied for dominance in the electric clock market, offering master clock systems that set the standard for accuracy and reliability. While Gents focused on robust, functional designs that served a wide range of public and industrial applications, Synchronome honed its reputation in scientific and observatory-grade timekeeping. The rivalry spurred innovation, with each company striving to outdo the other in design, precision, and reliability. Gents became renowned for its large-scale installations in landmarks like Waterloo Station and the Houses of Parliament, while Synchronome distinguished itself with pioneering technology, particularly in the field of astronomical timekeeping. This competitive dynamic not only elevated the standards of timekeeping in the early 20th century but also left a legacy of exceptional craftsmanship and innovation that collectors and enthusiasts value today. Synchronome Clocks: A Timeless Legacy Today, reclaimed Synchronome clocks are treasured for their industrial design and historical significance. Known for their sturdy construction and clean, minimalist style, these clocks are perfect for adding vintage charm to modern interiors. Whether it’s a classic Synchronome master clock...

Henri Jacot Carriage Clock with Strike Repeat Function
Located in Amersham, GB
This superb gorge cased carriage clock is beautifully gilded, with a crisp white enamel dial and a roman chapter ring and outer arabic minutes. The eight day two train movement is regulated by a slivered English lever platform escapement, striking on a blued steel gong, with hour repeat button. The case is numbered 10135 throughout, this coupled with the maker’s mark showing the dates of awards on the front plate, means we can date the clock to between 1878 and 1889. The front and back plates are both marked with Jacot stamps. The front with the medal stamp listing the exposition awards Jacot had won. Bronzes in 1855 and 1862, and silver medals in 1867 and 1878. This stamp did not change until 1889 when Jacot junior won the companies first gold medal. The back plate shows the parrot trademark stamp with the initials HJ which came into use in 1878. The back of the dial is also signed by the enameller and numbered with the serial number. This is a very thoroughly marked and numbered clock in excellent condition. Henri Jacot...
