20th Century Edwardian Sterling Silver Jewelry Box
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver jewelry box; an addition to the ornamental silverware collection This exceptional antique silver jewelry box, in sterling standard, has been modelled in the form of a dressing table. The surface of this Edwardian jewelry box is plain and embellished with two applied sterling silver balls to the anterior convex arched surface, replicating the details of the draw handles. The original hallmarked hinged cover is plain and parallels the shape of the body, opening to reveal the original segmented velvet interior. The weighted base of this exceptional antique box retains the original leatherette covering to the underside. The box is supported by four subtly tapering pillar style legs Note: The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the interior; it is a sign of quality when boxes have unlined interiors in addition to a solid silver cover. Condition This antique silver box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The box has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The original interior and leatherette covering have wear in keeping with age and use. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique Edwardian jewelry...

Loetz Pampas Glass And Metal Mounted Vase
Located in Dallas, TX
Loetz Pampas Glass And Metal Mounted Vase Czech Republic Circa 1900 Unmarked Height: 7.5 Inches, handle to handle 8.25 Inches Condition: Very good with wear commensurate of age and use with some loss to gilt, The Loetz glassworks existed in Klostermuhle, Austria, for just over a hundred years, starting from 1840. But its heyday was during the life-time of Max Ritter Von Spaun, grandson of the original Johann Loetz who had founded the company. Von Spaun took over the company in 1879 and ran it until 1908, a year before his death. He was assisted by Eduard Prochaska, his technical specialist, and together they invented, designed and produced a whole series of wonderful new types of glass, taking out several patents and winning awards at all the major world exhibitions during the 1890's and the first years of the new century. The Loetz company were amongst the leaders in Art Nouveau design and expecially in irridescent art glass. "Papillon" glass, like the vase on the left, is sometimes known today as "oil spot" glass. Another favourite Loetz colouring was irridized glass with pulled trails called "Phenomenon" glass. There were irridized vases with ribbons of metallic colours winding over the surface, and many spectacular designs with applied trails of beautiful colours, or simply pulled out of the body of the glass to form handles or decoration. About 1900 the company started collaborating with outside designers, and some great artists designed pieces for Lotz, notably Joseph Hofmann, Koloman Moser, Maria Kirchner, and Hofstatter. In 1908 Loetz was taken over by Max Von Spaun's son, also called Max, and although it struggled financially (going through bankruptcy in 1911 and again in 1931) there were several great designers whose work was produced by Loetz during those years and through the art deco period. These included Adolf Beckert...

Set of 5 Circa 1900 Blue and White Delft Vases from Holland
Located in Dallas, TX
A beautiful set of five blue and white Delft vases, this faience collection was hand-painted in Holland, circa 1900. The three bulbous vases are lidded, each with a finial depicting a rampant lion with a ball in its forepaws. Beneath the lion is a mottled background (on the front side only), with a foliate and floral margent. Each vase has the same scene painted on the front of the main body: a couple walking through a field surrounded by flowers. The opposite side has a floral rinceaux above a foliate branch. Painted in a similar fashion, the two concave vases are without lids. The side opposite from the cartouche of the couple has floral margents. All five vases have canted corners on the base. Inspired by Italian majolica, the faience produced in 16th century Holland...

The monumental pair of indoor or outdoor torchère lights, each torchère portrays a standing half-clothed black male engaging in traditional entertainment activities reflecting the cultural practices of the 19th century and early 20th century, one as a juggler and the other one as a snake charmer. The skill and cultural context of these impressive pair of sculptures add depth and charm highlighting the artistic technics, and the emotions being conveyed by each figure. The present pair of torchere are based on the engravings of Statues published by the celebrated sculptor, Mathurin Moreau (d. 1912). As their trade catalogues reveal, Moreau's oeuvre was extensively reproduced by the Val d'Osne foundry during the latter quarter of the 19th century (see photos of the Val d'Osne original catalogue). Established in 1835 by André, Val d'Osne was subsequently renamed Houille et Cie. in 1867 when taken over by Barbezat.
