One of the only known sculptures rendered in Blue John to exist in the world, this extraordinary George III panther exemplifies Georgian sophistication. Georgian — and later Regency — aesthetics revived classical themes of the ancient Mediterranean and Near East. With a proud stance, gaping jaw and unyielding gaze, the stately panther closely resembles the grand ancient Roman panthers often carved from marble as trapezophoros table supports. The regal cat rests atop a plinth, also made of Blue John, with Siena and Ashford marble detailing. The intrinsic and richly hued mineral inclusions of the Blue John replicate the textures and colors of the animal’s fur. Freyja Dorren, Watering Hole, 2023, glazed earthenware- 50cm Height X 35cm Width Unique piece. Freyja Dorren, born and raised in Edinburgh and now based in London, is a recent graduate at the Royal College of Art Ceramics & Glass MA which follows a Degree in Textiles at Central Saint Martins. Freyja has always been influenced by the life of cities, exploring the marriage of old historical aspects of architecture with new and modern developments into our ever-growing cities. Her interest in architecture stems from taking walks through the city of London, discovering old classical buildings, brutalist creations and high-tech features all within a short distance walk from each other. This led her to create work that is a nod to the past and the present, with a graphic style and finish, combining the undiscerning elements of a city. Each piece she has created is influenced by interior detailing, deriving from places such as the V&A Museum and other historic landmarks within London. Freyja's textile print background enables her to transform the tactile surface to create a unique interwoven surface, giving a current relevance to the object, bringing a contemporary twist to each landmark detail, magnifying repetition, and significance of history when we design.
