Pair of Decorative Victorian Plaster Corbel Figures

About the Item

Dating from the 1870s, these decorative antique corbel figures were once used to embellish a ceiling, perhaps of a prestigious Victorian banqueting hall. Due to their age, they are today more suited to interior decoration as objects of interest steeped in history for a display cabinet or live-in museum. Each has a distinctly mock medieval look, depicting a moulded figure sat cross-legged and wearing a Tudor style cap. One sits in a contemplating position, resting on their right arm and holding what appears to be a mallet in their left hand. The other wears a large, embellished collar and holds what looks like a paint palette or book in their left hand. There are various chips, losses and a distressed paint finish that tell the story of these charmingly decorative architectural antiques. We are also selling a single figure, sourced from the same location; please enquire for more details.
