I Need a Boy-Toy, Vanity Mirror, Mixed Media Objet D'art
By John Seubert
Located in Chicago, IL
Self-taught artist John Seubert, AKA John Dolly, uses objects he uncovers as he rehabs older homes in Chicago. This piece has two frames that are hinged together. A mirror adorns the outside. When opened, the right panel has a primitive figure painting while the left has a metal plaque with the phrase "I Need a Boy Toy" stamped into it. When closed, the back panel is stamped with "Like I Need a Refrigerator" and signed. John Seubert I Need a Boy-Toy (Like I Need a Refrigerator) mixed media 12.50h x 8.50w x 1.50d in 31.75h x 21.59w x 3.81d cm JSE074 In the early Nineties, John Seubert was living in a former hotel in a high-rise building on St. James Place in Chicago. The apartment was tiny, as hotel rooms tend to be, and clad with paper-thin walls allowing sound to pass from one apartment to the other. At the time, John’s artwork consisted of pounding copper sheets into tables which was a noisy endeavor to say the least. Following several noise complaints from the neighbors, John had a dream that he was living in a ramshackle house but with plenty of room to work and no attached neighbors. The following day after lunching at the McDonalds in Lincoln Park, John wandered the neighborhood a came upon a shabby, falling-down old Victorian house. He located the real estate agent, put in an offer, and weeks later was pushing a shopping cart full of his belongings to his new home. This 144-year-old Painted Lady provided a blank canvas for this inimitable artist. For many years the house remained so empty that John was able to ride his Japanese fold up bike throughout the 1st floor. “Some people want to have sex...

Midnight Matinee, Ceramic and Found Object Assemblage Sculpture
By Philip Capuano
Located in Chicago, IL
Artist statement: During the summers in Connecticut when I was a pre-teen, I lived for playing baseball. I grew up on a farm and had to work hard, but I always made time for baseball. I played everyday and sometimes even slept with my glove underneath my pillow. I dreamed of playing professionally for the New York Yankees. The only thing that dragged me away from playing baseball was an arts and craft’s class in my school’s summer program. On Tuesday afternoon, after lunch, baseball was on hold for arts and crafts. In my first class, they taught us how to make pot holders and build things with Popsicle sticks by gluing them together. It was so much fun. I guess this was the earliest telling of what was to unfold in the future years. I continued to play semi-pro baseball until the age of 38. I was also into weightlifting and even placed in a national competition. Sports and art have always been my passions. I was willing to put sports on hold for my art, though. And sports have always influenced my artwork. My first great influence in art was my craft teacher in high school, Shirley Charron. I was not an “A” student by any means and I did not excel in math or science. Ms. Charron knew I wasn’t a great student and encouraged me to apply for art school at Silvermine College of Arts. The college was holding interviews and all I had to do was make an appointment and bring my artwork. I was excited to find out that they didn’t need to know my S.A.T. scores. So I met with Dean Bob Gray and he liked my artwork. I became a student at the Silvermine College and received my Associate’s Degree from there. I went on to the Maryland Institute of Art where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree. I met several students from various backgrounds and different countries. I was fortunate for having great teachers and mentors along the way. Visiting artists were a big influence to me, as well. My college years helped greatly, keeping me out of the ‘real world’ and into the realm of creativity and free flowing ideas. After receiving my Masters Degree from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1977. I stayed in Chicago. I became ‘so-to-speak’ a “Chicago” artist, living in lofts, dreaming the dreams of becoming known and reaching for the stars. I was still quite naïve at the age of 30. Luckily, I kept my day job as a cleaning man. I worked hard during those years after graduate school and still do 28 years later. During those 28 years, I tried out for the Chicago White Sox...

The Black Road: Iron, Classical Male Bust, Resin Sculpture with Rust Iron Patina
Located in Chicago, IL
This extraordinary sculptural portrait head takes its beginnings from classical antiquity. Attention to detail and complete understanding of the human figure are evident. The sculpture, which is made of resin and patinaed with a rusted iron can be shown on a base or lying down. Dean Kugler The Black Road: Iron, 2021 Resin and Iron Patina 20h x 16w in 60.96h x 40.64w cm DK0041 Dean Kugler is a seasoned interdisciplinary artist, painter, and figurative sculptor. His 3D work is featured primarily at Gallery Victor Armendariz in Chicago. In the last three years, Dean has also been featured at Abend Gallery in Denver, The Figge Art Museum, and Bereskin Gallery in Iowa. He has shown at SOFA Chicago in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and participated in ArtPrize in 2013, 2014, and 2015. He sees himself primarily as a sculptor due to the challenges he finds and thrives on within the process. In all its beauty, crudeness, and subtleties, the figure offers infinite opportunities to express feelings and emotions. There is also a physicality to sculpture that requires the work to be experienced through movement in order to reveal more about the piece. Dean has always been drawn to the interactive nature of large-scale sculpture that is available to the public - he loves the idea that his work entices the observer to go beyond what they can see and add tactility to the experience. By using both realism and abstraction, he creates a visual that challenges the viewer to resolve what they are seeing. Therefore, providing a greater connection between the artist and the viewer. The Black Road: Verdigris, Classical Male Bust, Resin, Patina and Gold Leaf
Located in Chicago, IL
This extraordinary sculptural portrait head takes its beginnings from classical antiquity. Attention to detail and complete understanding of the human figure are evident. The sculpture, which is made of resin and patinaed and is then highlighted with gold leaf. Dean Kugler The Black Road: Verdigris resin, gold leaf, patina Measures: 10 H x 13 W x 19 D in 25.40 H x 33.02 W x 48.26 D cm DK0045 Kugler uses scale and the juxtaposition of disparate elements in order to engage and challenge the viewer. He combines elements such as strength and weakness or beauty and damage to be experienced simultaneously within the same piece of work to create a tense energy. Kugler also incorporates the technical skill of tight rendering with the dynamism of abstraction to create this energy to add additional excitement and intrigue to his aesthetic.   Dean Kugler is a seasoned interdisciplinary artist, painter, and figurative sculptor. Vanity Mirror Sculptural Construction with Sculpture Found Objects and Portrait
By John Seubert
Located in Chicago, IL
Self-taught artist John Seubert, AKA John Dolly, uses objects he uncovers as he rehabs older homes in Chicago. This piece is constructed with a small framed mirror and a drawer front complete with hardware which form the backdrop to a small portrait painting on wood. The painting itself is cut in the shape of the head. The back carries the inscription of the title. These three pieces are mounted onto a found marble base. John Seubert You Treat Me Like a Piece of Fucking Furniture found objects Measures: 17 H x 9 W x 5 D in 43.18 H x 22.86 W x 12.70 D cm JSE045 In the early Nineties, John Seubert was living in a former hotel in a high-rise building on St. He located the real estate agent...

Thoscene Bronze Sculpture
By John Brevard

Thoscene: Thoughts creating your forms We are all unique in our forms and expressions. Thoscene was created to celebrate our individuality and connectedness. We have a fascination with the impact of new technologies on design, architecture and consciousness. We are at the forefront of the parametric computational design processes and 3D fabrication techniques. For the past 8 years, we have been focused on how to develop and leverage these innovations to pave the way for the first truly personalized design experience. We created the Thoscene customization platform to help people connect more deeply with themselves. Thoscene is the generation engine of these forms inspired by you. Through the Thoscene platform, customers can order one of a kind art pieces that are based on personal inputs such as time, date and location of birth. Thoscene exists for clients to connect more deeply and have a truly personal virtual experience by tapping into the spirit of design oriented users. Thoscene stands to represent an emergence of the timeless with the infinite. Using your astrological data, natural patterns, and sacred geometries, This Thoscene sculpture reveals the relationship between form and our unique human experience.  Thoscene uses this data along with parametric modeling tools to bring people a truly personalized design experience. Through the Thoscene platform, cleints can order one of a kind art pieces that are based on personal inputs such as time, date and location of birth, or a mixture of your families data.  Thoscene stands to represent an emergence of the timeless and eternal with a singular goal to honor our connectedness and individuality. How It Works: 1.Choose the type and size 2.Let us know your month, day, and location of birth 4.We create and render your 3D based on your personal attributes   Thoscene uses your date of birth and forms an experience design, based ones propensity towards different character traits (based on your astrological and vedic data).   If someone’s chart shows that the person is more prone towards being more expressive or extroverted, the design will become more extroverted to the degree at which the expression exists.   The designs are expressed in six unique series, Fabri, Orthofract, Verahedra, Morphogen, and Spherical are based on natural geometries and phenomenology. Their combined forms coalesce into Singularity, whose theme reflects the inseparable relationship of the part to the whole.   These designs reflect the inner strength and boldness of every individual, inspiring a way of living...

Contemporary Abstract Welded Steel Sculpture by Scott Gordon (Shaman, 2010)
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
Shaman steel, found objects 20 x 6 x 20.5 in. Artist statement I seldom use stock material, but prefer distressed and rusted steel that has been scarred, bent, and made imperfect. In this state, the material becomes quite beautiful. There are figurative elements in my work, though I am more drawn to the non-figurative, to the raw and essential aspect of steel. The industrial purpose of steel must be considered, its use in construction, manufacturing, the military. Steel is forged with enormous energy and power. The process is violent, loud. Here, it is still and approachable. The compositions are constructed mainly from found parts. Their relationships manifest as I interact with the material. The pieces interlock, balance, and become fitted before I fasten or weld them together. The engineering is elemental. Altering the material is avoided. The number of parts kept to a minimum. Art is my spiritual exercise, my selflessness. It identifies me as a creator and satisfies my human longing for place and purpose. It needs not to be great, or preeminent, or commercial. Art speaks because it is primitive. It exists because it is sacred. Bio Scott Gordon was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey in 1966. He attended the University of Denver where he studied business and the University of Washington where he pursued an MFA in creative writing. While he was in Seattle, he was introduced to steel as an employee of the David Gulassa Company, a fabrication shop which produced custom furniture and architectural fixtures. At Gulassa, after hours and on weekends, Scott worked on personal projects, applying the tools and techniques used in his daily work. Lacking resources to purchase stock materials, much of the steel he used came from the scrap bins at Gulassa. He also used steel found along the railways, shipyards, and industrial corridors of Seattle. The characteristics and limitations of the material helped him to define his aesthetic and his approach to sculpture. He currently lives and works in Vermont. Inspirations: David Smith, Anthony Caro, John Chamberlain, Julio Gonzalez, Richard Stankiewicz, Tony Smith...
