Particular pair of toilet bottles in cut and ground by hand crystal; for their execution it was used crystal with a percentage of lead of 30%; the high lead content, instead of calcium present in the common glass, gives the crystal a remarkable hardness, exceptional transparency, and a high refractive index; with the techniques of cutting, grinding and polishing, scrupulously performed by hand, extraordinary light effects and reflections were created; the bottles with the ball body are surmounted by a silver neck and a hinged lid finely chiseled with Victorian motifs. They bear the Classic English silver punches from which we can tell that they were produced in the Victorian style in the city of Birmingham in 1907 (Edward VII) by the firm Phineas Harris Levi & Joseph Wolfe Salaman. The company was founded in 1870 in Birmingham on Northampton Street, in 1872 moved to larger premises on Hockley Street and in 1885 the business was finally moved to a prestigious building on Newhall Street. A stunning sterling silver vessel in the form of a stemmed bowl crafted by Graziella Laffi, Lima, Peru, Circa 1965. Marked on the rim: G. Laffi, PERU. The vessel was designed as a modern rendition of ancient pre-Columbina drinking vessel used in ceremony. The piece projects a regal and substantial aura due to its thick double wall construction with seamless craftmanship. The exterior surface was decorated with high relief roundels protrusion alternated with a radiating design that resembles star fish or a blooming flower. It has an impressive presence with its unique form and ornamentation that appears both modern and ancient at the same time.
Graziella Laffi was born in 1923 in Florence, Italy to Gino Laffi, a silversmith and artist. Following her family tradition, Graziella enrolled in master classes after elementary school, focusing on design and painting. She next attended Escuela de Bellas Artes de Puerta Romana for three years, where Gino taught, and then to the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, where she concentrated in architecture until the start of World War II. In 1947, Graziella, then twenty-four, immigrated with her parents to Peru. Gino later created a silversmith studio and showroom called Fabrica Laffi on Avenue Mexico, where Graziella initially learned her Craft. The Pre-Columbian culture in her adopted country inspired Graziella to travel and collect, which ultimately influence her design in the silver pieces. Graziella learned the metalworking techniques of the ancient Peruvian civilizations and rejected the current technology. She mostly used hammering, rolling and creating joints as the ancients do. As an ambassador of Peruvian culture, her work promoted the indigenous Peruvian art and rekindled the interest in its ancient heritage throughout South America, the United States and Europe. An exceptional, fine and impressive set of antique George V English sterling silver, enamel and glass scent bottles; an addition to our silver mounted glass collection.
This exceptional antique George V scent bottle container has a cylindrical form.
The surface of the body is embellished with exceptional pale blue guilloche enamel accented with violet floral garlands above a transitional band of purple enamel incorporating minute floral motifs.
The cover is ornamented with further enamel decoration with violet floral garlands suspended from a scrolling trellis style border to the upper portion.
The upper plateau of the cover is encircled with further enamel ornamentation reflecting the design to the lower portion of the body.
The cover opens to reveal the original three glass perfume bottles and stoppers.
Each bottle is fitted with a silver mount ornamented with a band of pale blue enamel.
These antique perfume bottles are fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior bearing the retailer's mark 'Diamond Merchants, Searle & Co Ltd, Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, 79 Lombard St, London'.
The cover of the box secures with a decorative trefoil hinged catch.
The shaped glass body of each antique perfume bottles is embellished with stepped ornamentation to the upper portion.
The interior of the sterling silver chamber, cover and mounts to the bottles retain the original gilding.
Condition
These antique scent bottles are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The glass perfume bottles are in perfect condition.
The original gilding shows signs of wear in keeping with age.
There is a slight surface abrasion to the enamel at the top rim of the container.
The interior of the original box is in excellent condition, in keeping with age; the exterior surface is in excellent presentation condition.
Full import hallmarks struck to the underside of the sterling silver container and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks show signs of wear in keeping with age but remain legible.

Antique German Silver and Cut Glass Apple Jar

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique German silver and glass jar; an addition to our diverse range of continental silverware.
This exceptional antique German 800 standard silver box has a circular shaped form.
The jar is fitted with a push fit silver cover realistically modelled in the form of a stemmed apple.
The antique glass body of the jar has a subtly panelled form and is ornamented with cut glass decoration in a geometric design, in addition to a star cut motif to the underside.
The upper rim of the jar is fitted with a hallmarked silver mount.
The hallmarks struck to the surface of the antique silver mount include:
National mark: Crescent moon and crown, Germany
Silver quality/purity mark: 800 (800/1000)
Maker's mark: WTB (untraced)
Condition
This antique German silver mounted jar is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The German hallmarks struck to the silver mount are all very clear.
