The vase’s bulbous body is decorated in a red, cobalt blue, turquoise, and green floral design of saz leaves, roses, and tulips. The neck is decorated with delicate floral sprays. The design is highlighted with gilding throughout, and is intentionally sparse around the turquoise area of the neck to mimic the wear of the 16th-century vase after which it was modelled. Large Chinese Porcelain Five Dragon Meiping Vase, Modern, China
Located in Austin, TX
A large and powerful Chinese famille rose enameled porcelain "Five Dragon" meiping vase, modern, China.
The oversized vase of traditional meiping form, with a splayed foot supporting a baluster shaped body with high shoulders, short, narrow neck, and rolled mouth rim.
The large vase decorated with five dragons molded in relief. Their bodies painted in vibrant overglaze famille rose enamels of reds, greens, yellows and turquoise.
The dragons portrayed dancing in the sky among flames and clouds. Their bodies twisting and writhing, claws extended, tails coiled, some with mouths open in triumphant roars. The main dragon in red, and portrayed to more directly face the viewer.

Rubboli Lustre Majolica Vase with Mythical Beasts Decor
By Rubboli
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Sculptural, large ceramic Neo-Renaissance Rubboli vase is finished in cobalt, red and gold lustre. Hand-painted decor follows the classical shape of the piece, with abstract pattern accentuated the base and the top of the vase, and traditional designs of mythical beasts surrounding central medallion motifs.
The vase is a stunning, museum quality example of the revival of the magnificent Italian Renaissance decoration of the 16th century. Late 19th century collecting craze for Renaissance majolica, especially lusterware, prompted the Italian potters to hunt for the secret formulas that were lost four hundred years earlier. Studios owned by such ceramicists as Cantagalli, Molaroni, Rubboli, Santarella, and others attempted to duplicate antique lusterware pieces for the general public. Each studio developed their own closely guarded formulation.
In 1870s Paolo Rubboli...
