An exceptional, fine and impressive, pair of antique Georgian English sterling silver bottle labels / tickets made by Hester Bateman; part of our wine related silverware collection. These exceptional and collectable George III sterling silver wine labels have a curvilinear ovoid-shaped form. These antique silver labels / tickets are ornamented with a bright cut engraved and pin struck scrolling designs accented with gadroon decorated scrolling leaf motifs paralleling the borders. The body of each label is engraved with the individual wine or spirit: 'Port' and 'Hock'. The upper portion of each label features a circular cartouche ornamented with the contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a demi-lion, holding between the paws a roundel. These Georgian silver bottle labels are suspended by two ring loops and connected by silver round link chains. These fine bottle labels, crafted by the renowned female London silversmith Hester Bateman. The body of each coaster is embellished with an exceptional array of conjoined hippopotamus designs*, ranging in stances; the interior surface of this animal themed border bears details enhancing the anatomical features. Each coaster is embellished with a band of pierced and pin struck decoration to the upper portion and plain pin struck borders to each panel. The decoration to the body of each piece incorporates a pin struck bordered shaped cartouche displaying a contemporary bright cut engraved crest.
