A Fine George IV Sterling Silver Brandy Warmer by Barnard & Sons, London 1830

About the Item

An exceptional Georgian sterling silver brandy warmer of fine & large proportions and in extremely good overall condition, by one of the most important & oldest British silversmith firms dating back to 1680. The large sterling bowl of compressed form having a lipped spout and featuring a very charming heart-shaped mount fitted to a sterling ferrule affixed with a turned & ebonized fruitwood handle. The underside of the bowl bearing London hallmarks, date letter for 1830 and partially rubbed makers marks for the highly esteemed London silversmith firm of Barnard & Sons, that being Edward, Edward Jr., John & William Barnard. In extremely good overall condition, and priced competitively in comparison to similar examples in the marketplace. The dimensions of the the bowl measure 3.25" high x 5" diameter. The overall height, measuring to the top of the handle measures 6". The overall width, measuring from the outer edge of the bowl across to the tip of the handle measures 10.25". The combined overall weight (including the handle) is 374 grams or 12 troy ounces.

Rare, very early George I period silver brandy/spirits warmer, Joseph Clare I, London, 1714. Wonderful, historically interesting 308 years barware piece. Classic circular tapering form with a shaped base, heavy solid silver with a beautifully turned oak handle. Fully hallmarked on the side of the body Period initials on the bottom of base N E M Measurements: 3.32 inches in diameter, 5.25 inches to the to of handle, 2.13 inches height of vessel. 1714 was the year George I ascended the throne, making this an interesting, very early piece of Georgian silver. Excellent piece in very good condition commensurate with age. Beautiful old patina on the silver and the fine oak handle. An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique George IV English sterling silver coasters made in Newcastle; part of our silver wine related collection. These exceptional antique George IV Newcastle sterling silver coasters have a circular rounded form. Each coaster has a wirework body which incorporates the original applied oval vacant cartouche encompassed with a thread decorated border. The upper rim of each coaster is ornamented with an undulating wirework border. The coasters are fitted with fine and impressive turned mahogany bases, embellished with the original silver buttons to the centre. These sterling silver coasters are fitted with green baize to the underside.
