Vintage George VI Art Deco Style Sterling Silver Condiment Set (1947)
Vintage George VI Art Deco Style Sterling Silver Condiment Set (1947)

Vintage George VI Art Deco Style Sterling Silver Condiment Set (1947)

Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne

An exceptional, fine and impressive vintage George VI English sterling silver Art Deco style three piece condiment set - boxed; an addition to our vintage silverware collection. This exceptional vintage George VI sterling silver three-piece condiment set consists of a salt, a pepper pot and a mustard pot. The pieces of this fine silver condiment set have a plain cylindrical tapering form onto a circular foot. The surface of each piece is embellished with concentric bands of tooled decoration, all in the iconic Art Deco style. The mustard pot is fitted with an angular handle with a plain upper plateau. The mustard pot retains the original hinged hallmarked domed cover, ornamented with tiered concentric circular decoration and surmounted with an Art Deco style tapering cylindrical finial. The pepper pot is fitted with a push fit cover with pierced 'pepper' holes. The salt and mustard pot are fitted with removable blue glass liners. This vintage silver condiment set is supplied with associate salt and mustard spoons. These fine examples of vintage silverware are fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with two hinged catches. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'By Appointment, Mappin & Webb Ltd, Sheffield & London' and each component of the condiment set bears the retailer's mark 'Mappin & Webb Ltd, Sheffield & London'. The exceptional condiment set will have been crafted in the same year, but due to the hallmarking system the mustard pot is struck with the date letter 'D', whereas the pepper and salt bear the date letter 'E'. Such iconic Art Deco examples in the original fitted box are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition The pieces of this Mappin and Webb silver...

Stag Elk Silver Stirrup Cup Goblet Hunting Equestrian Barware Decor 1970s

By Gucci

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

1970s Stirrup Cup With The Head Of A Stag or Elk. Vintage Silver plated stag head with large antlers stirrup cup. The stirrup cup can be displayed on their base and upside down on their antler. Beautifully detailed with textured top, the stirrup cup adorned with a cast stag head on its base, banded center and semi-gloss bottom. Playful stirrup cup from the 1970s in the style of Gucci. They balance with the animal heads up or down and can just be used as decorative objects if desired. This Classic Elizabeth II style stirrup cup, is of plain beaker form with a cast stag head to one end. Can be displayed as pictured or with the cup upside down, resting on the stag's antlers. This bar favorite stands out for the drink aficionado! Larger than many of the stirrup cups. In the early 19th century, stirrup cups were originally used as a vessel to hold a drink offered to a man on horseback before a hunting departure. Today in England and Europe stirrup cups are still used to serve drinks on horseback to the participants in a fox hunt or steeple chase, the beverage is given to guests just before the very moment of departure, referring to having one's feet in the stirrups. It is also the drink served at the meet before a fox hunt. The Italian fashion house, Gucci, made a very similar set during the 70s. Nowadays, stirrup cups are still commonly connected with hunting but are also used for decorative gifts on any occasion. Stag, Deer or Elk Stirrup Cup. Capacity: 8 oz. Height: 6.25". Diameter of the cup: 3.25" Antlers Width: 4". Made of Silver-Plate Figural English stirrup cup with stag. No maker's mark.
