An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver claret jug with matching goblets made by Barnard & Sons Ltd, an addition to our range of collectable silverware This exceptional Victorian sterling silver set consists of a claret jug and two matching goblets. This impressive sterling silver claret jug has an ovoid form onto a circular domed foot. The body of the jug is embellished with a fine and impressive chased tapering swag design incorporating large graduating convex ovoid bead decoration amidst a shaped paralleling border with trefoil motifs on a matte background. The tapering cylindrical neck flares to the shaped rim, which is ornamented with an applied bead decorated border. The neck of the jug is encircled with bead decoration flanking a broad band of chased decoration reflecting the identical design to that of the swag decoration. The circular spreading foot to each item and upper portion of each goblet are embellished with a circular convex bead decorated border in addition to a band of bead ornamentation to the rim and knop. This is a very good PAIR of large diameter Antique Wine Bottle Coasters, made from Sterling Silver and Sheffield Plate, dating to Circa 1790, George 111rd, Regency period.. The design of antique wine coasters follows the style of the period that they were made, in with this set being circular, plainer and less fussy, dating them to Circa 1790. They all tended to follow the basic design of a circular gallery with a turned hard-wood base, having a central silver button for crests or monograms, and a baize-covered base. They were always made in sets, normally as pairs, just like this set. The main body is made from Sheffield plate, which is worn in places, adding to its charm and authenticity in our view, with the central monogrammed button and the four applied leaf borders on the top rim being sterling silver. Another advantage of this set is the large internal diameter of about 4~5/8 inches, allowing for larger bottles such as champagne bottles to sit in the coasters. We cannot find any makers marks on either coaster. Overall a very good antique set of large Georgian wine coasters...

This magnificent antique George IV English sterling silver soup tureen has an oval rounded form. The lower portion of the body is encompassed with impressive chased fluted decoration in a subtle swirl design. The decoration to the body incorporates an impressive scrolling leaf bordered cartouche to either side, each displaying an exceptional contemporary bright cut engraved marital coat of arms* depicting on the dexter a chevron between three crosses paty and the sinister a quadrangular castle. The coat of arms is surmounted with a bright cut engraved crest displaying a tent adorned or lined charged in the interior with a cross paty of the third. Antique early-20th Century English solid silver and mounted on Spode Copeland's China novelty wine jug, in the form of a standing cockatoo, set with coloured glass eyes and white porcelain body imitating textured plumage, mounted with a realistically modelled silver head and feet. Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), Sheffield, year 1912 (u), Maker A&CoLt (Asprey & Co Ltd). The world-famous English luxury manufacturer and retailer Asprey & Co started as a small silk printing business by William Asprey in Mitcham, Surrey. Soon the company largely expanded its offering by purchasing some other firms. By 1847 Asprey moved to its iconic premises at New Bond Street in London and established its flagship store, where one could buy all ranges of exquisite goods, from books to dressing cases with silver details. At the International Exhibition in 1862, Asprey high-quality dressing cases won a gold medal, which brought the company a worldwide reputation for exquisite craftsmanship. The Royal Warrant, which was awarded by her Majesty Queen Victoria the same year, just perpetuated that reputation. Since then, Asprey has received a Royal Warrant from every British monarch. Besides dressing cases, the company produced and retailed a wide range of exclusive goods, including silver, gold, jewelry, stationery, cutlery, tableware, etc. In the 20th century, commissions poured from all over the world and by the 1920s Asprey created them not only for British Royalty, but for foreign Royals and heads of states as well. The most sensational orders of all were the exquisite pearl necklace for Queen Mary and the teak and silver traveling trunks for the five beloved wives of the Maharaja of Patiala. The 20s and 30s were the golden era of the Art Deco style, of which Asprey was a big adopter, many of its luxury goods from that time became iconic, such as Asprey cigarette cases...
