Embroidery thread on canvas Image size: 27 cm H x 17 cm W Frame size: 40 cm H x 30 cm W x 3 cm D Unique Blackwood frame with plexiglass ___ Maria Jose Franco Maldonado’s family was her art school by the hand of Georgia O`Keefe, Elaine de Kooning, Lee Krasner, Artemisia Gentileschi, Matisse, Leonor Fini, Leonora Carrington, Louise Bourgeois, Maripaz Jaramillo, Judy Chicago, Basquiat, and so many others. She then formalized her studies in art direction and advertising in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2015, she showed her work for the very first time in three group exhibitions around New York at Shervin's Café Gallery, Brooklyn Fireproof Gallery, and Greenpoint Gallery. That same year her illustrations accompanied Pilar Gualco`s literary work in Buenos Aires at Fauna Estudio Taller. In 2017, she fell in love with embroidery. Slowly, she connected techniques and in the process dressed up a lot of weird humans. She showed her work in 2019 at Noches San Felipe and Open San Felipe with SGR and Bandy Bandy galleries in Bogotá, Colombia. Her series AFFAIR was shown at Noches del Millón, from Feria del Millón in Medellín, Colombia at the end of 2019. Beautiful vintage Contemporary Kinder Harris large scale mixed media art collage signed & titled Gold Rush triple matted in a gilded wood frame. Lovely condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. LOL… This is a STUNNING mixed media wall art collage signed & titled “Gold Rush.” It is a large scale or monumental piece bearing the Kinder-Harris Art label which indicates that it was done before Kinder-Harris was sold to JC Penny Company in 1992. It is signed however… we just can’t make it out! We have researched, messaged, & emailed but to no avail. Kind of looks like Rita Millat… kind of looks like R. Millat… (Robert?) Or… could be a P… or an N… (SIGH) Fancy signatures!! Anyway, since we can’t locate the artist we are selling this magnificent piece for its intrinsic decorative value and is priced as such. It presents attractive abstract elements beautifully composed of textured & torn paper, fabric, threads, paint, & metallic gold & copper details. It is triple matted bearing a thin gold inside edge & it’s encased in a superbly simple gilded wood frame. Talk about a GOLDEN TREASURE!!!!! Painting is in good vintage condition with new gold wood frame. LEE PORZIO (1913-2004) Lee was born in Paterson, New Jersey in September 1913 to Italian immigrant parents. Growing up in nearby Hawthorne, New Jersey, Lee met first husband Angelo di Benedetto, by then a well-known artist in his own right. They married in 1942 while Angelo was serving in the Air Force. In 1946, when he was discharged, they remained in Colorado, where he had been stationed, settling in Central City near Denver. Apparently, Angelo’s years-long obsession with turning a warehouse into a giant art studio created tension in their relationship ending in their divorce. By 1953, Lee had met Allen Ditson and moved to Arizona; they married in 1954. Once in Arizona, they began building their reputations as artists able to work in various media. Allen was a sculptor in metal and wood and a furniture designer. Lee was known for her skill as a graphic artist and could execute her designs in clay, oils, fabrics and fibers. Her work was sold at fine galleries nationwide. Together, their commissions include works of dramatic size and scope in the architectural and commercial field throughout the United States as well as intimate pieces for homes and small offices. Their work adorned numerous banks, offices, restaurants, churches and university buildings all over Phoenix, Arizona. Lee passed away in Paradise Valley, Arizona in 2004. Allen died in 2007.
