French 17th Century Baroque Silk Damask Textile
Located in New York, NY
French 17th century Baroque silk damask textile 2'1 x 5'1. Going for Baroque? Everything is dramatic. Think Caravaggesque paintings. Sculptures carved furniture. Everything is designed to impress. This textile, originally a section of a longer bolt, displays more than one repeat of a bold, complex cartouche and acanthus pattern in yellow-ochre and raspberry-red. The twisting foliage makes it three dimensional. What a great wall piece! You don’t have to be fluent in art history or in the language of period decoration to appreciate this eye-catching object. It is a full loom width and is mounted on board ready to hand. And the furnishing context can be modern. Think of it as another piece of wall candy, like an abstract painting. Condition for a textile of this age is good. The cranberry...

Regency Silk and Wool Picture of Mother and Her Children, after John Hoppner RA
By Sir John Hoppner
Located in Downingtown, PA
Superb large English silk and wool portrait, A Mother and Her Four Children, after John Hoppner R.A., circa 1810-20, Within gilt frame. Silk over linen fabric ground, silk floss, worsted wool yarn, Merino wool yarn and oil paint. A remarkable silk picture with painted sky background and each figure with a painted face and hands with the remaining portions of the picture finished in wool. The design comes from a mezzotint after John Hoppner made in the 1790s. John Hoppner specialized in painting mothers and children. The picture depicts a large standing female figure dressed in a white dress and wearing a turban. She stands by two classical columns with her four children in front of her. The youngest child is sitting on the ground playing with her red shoe in her hands with a tambourine by her side. Her elder sister stands behind her. Mid Century Modern Framed Portrait Painting of a Woman in Blue and Pink
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
A mid-century modern portrait painting of a woman on blue silk. This portrait is professionally framed in a rectangular wood frame with gilt gold detail. The painting is of a woman in a pink button-up top with short blond hair on a blue background. She has piercing blue eyes and a soft pink lip. The painting is matted in cream. This piece has not been examined outside the frame. However, it seems to be hand-painted on silk. This would be a fabulous piece to add to a portrait painting gallery wall, or alone in a powder bath or hallway. It could easily be reframed to fit into any aesthetic. The piece is unsigned from what we can tell. However, it might feature a signature under the matte. The back has a gold sticker that says, "Fergusons' Paint & Decorating, 5118 North May Avenue...

Antique French Tapestry Area Rug 8'7" x 11'4"
Located in New York, NY
Tapestry is a form of textile art, traditionally woven by hand on a loom. Tapestry is weft-faced weaving, in which all the warp threads are hidden in the completed work, unlike cloth weaving where both the warp and the weft threads may be visible. In tapestry weaving, weft yarns are typically discontinuous; the artisan interlaces each colored weft back and forth in its own small pattern area. It is a plain weft-faced weave having weft threads of different colors worked over portions of the warp to form the design. Most weavers use a natural warp thread, such as wool, linen or cotton. The weft threads are usually wool or cotton but may include silk, gold, silver, or other alternatives. The success of decorative tapestry can be partially explained by its portability (Le Corbusier once called tapestries...

Collection of Five Japanese Oshi-E Textile Art Panels Meiji Period
Located in Atlanta, GA
On offer is a set of five Japanese textile art panels called Oshi-E circa Meiji Period (1868-1912). This usual set of panels depict various aspects of daily life in Edo time with beautiful details. Some of these panels are snapshots of the buzzling commercial activities at the marketplace, providing insight into the signages, architecture, costumes and how people interacted within a historical and pictorial context. Other panels depict daily leisure activities such as lounging in the park or visiting friends. The realistic rendering and attention to details are not short of "photographic" quality. From the signage of the shops to the motions and attires of the individual characters, from the hairstyle, small ornaments, down to the facial expression, were all recorded in great details. Each panel was signed with the artist's name Yukihana in Kanji with a red seal. These panels are unframed and await your custom touch (framing with inner gilt spacer and mat costs about 250-500 depending on the material chosen, see a framed example in the last picture of a single framed panel we have for sale). We offer them for sale individually, but it will be great for a collector to consider the whole set so that they can stay together. The Oshi-E (also known as kiritori zaiku) is a type of ornamental textile art dated back to the Muromachi period (1392-1573). It started among the elite aristocratic women in Kyoto before spreading wider in the Japanese society. Throughout Edo and Meiji period, Oshi-E were sometimes used to make offerings to the altars in the temple and in the late 19th century, it was exported to the west along with the other embroidery textile art. Oshi-E was made by using silk wadding to create a relief design. Various silk fabric swaps and sometimes wires and tassels, often recycled from older kimonos...
