Honorio Garcia Condoy (b. Honorio Garcia, 1900, Zaragoza, d. 1953 Madrid) figurative sculpture in carved stone depicting a faceless virgin (ca. 1930s). A contemporary and close friend of Picasso, Condoy drew a lot of inspiration from the shapes and composition of Cubism. Though this particular sculpture is from a body of work heavily influenced by Roman churches and symbolism. The half-standing, half-sitting Virgin, the flat heads, the erased faces - these attributes of Roman art are all present in this piece. The featureless, flat-skulled virgin figure enveloped in a self-embrace is perched in a half-sitting/half-kneeling pose.
