Vintage Cast-Iron Eagle Sculpture, Early 20th Century
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a cast-iron figural eagle doorstop, circa early 20th century. The eagle is depicted with wings spread wide, perched and mounted to a square marble base. The eagle retains traces of its original gilt surface and is embossed with “F.O.E.” at its midsection, possibly referring to the Fraternal Order of Eagles.   The eagle is both the national bird and the national animal of the United States. The eagle motif has been widely used throughout American history, most notably as part of our Great Seal. The founders of the United States were fond of comparing their new republic with the Roman Republic, in which eagle imagery, usually the golden eagle, was prominent. On June 20, 1782, the Continental Congress adopted the design for the Great Seal of the United States...

"Come Forth A Dream" Bronze Sculpture by Veryl Goodnight, Ed. 19/25, 1987
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an original signed bronze sculpture by American artist Veryl Goodnight. The sculpture is called "Come Forth A Dream" and depicts four running horses, galloping together with free-spirited and unbridled energy. The patinated bronze was cast in 1987 in a very limited edition of only 25. This specific bronze is signed, dated, and numbered 19/25. Veryl Goodnight(b, 1947) is a celebrated contemporary American artist working in Southwest Colorado. Her studio ranch is situated between Durango and Mesa Verde National Park and the dramatic landscape, abundant wildlife, and fellow ranching community provide endless inspiration for her art. Her many years spent in the West, observing, painting, and sketching her surroundings, gave Goodnight a profound awareness of the mannerisms of ranchers and animals alike. This experience translates directly to her art. Goodnight has monumental sculptures across the United States, in Europe, and Japan. The most notable is “The Day The Wall Came Down...

Benjamin Harrison Indian Peace Medal on Presentation Collar, 1889
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an original Benjamin Harrison presidential peace medal. This bronze medal was originally struck by the U.S. Mint in 1889 as a peace offering to the various Native American tribes in the U.S. The obverse of the medal has a raised relief side profile bust of President Harrison, with the text "Benjamin Harrison President U.S.A. 1889". The reverse of the medal has the word "PEACE" at top, with a scene of a settler and Native American talking in front of a log cabin. Below, a crossed tomahawk and peace pipe are enclosed by a wreath of laurel leaves. The medal is displayed on a blue velvet presentation collar with gold striped edging and light purple fabric on the reverse. The medal is attached under a blue fabric covered button. Following the British and French practice of handing out silver medals to tribal chiefs, George Washington began a policy of presenting peace medals to American Indian leaders at treaty signings and other formal ceremonies. Every subsequent American president from Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Harrison is represented on a presidential peace medal, with the exception of William Henry Harrison...

Sculpture Owl Designer : Guayasamin, Year: 1955
By Oswaldo Guayasamin

We have specialized in the sale of Art Deco and Art Nouveau and Vintage styles since 1982. If you have any questions we are at your disposal. Pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'. And you can see more objects to the style for sale. Oswaldo Guayasamín (July 6, 1919 – March 10, 1999) was an Ecuadorian painter and sculptor of Kichwa and Mestizo heritage. Biography Early life Guayasamín was born in Quito, Ecuador,[2] to a native father and a Mestiza mother, both of Kichwa descent.[3] His family was poor and his father worked as a carpenter for most of his life. Oswaldo Guayasamín later worked as a taxi and truck driver. He was the eldest of ten children in his family. When he was young, he enjoyed drawing caricatures of his teachers and the children that he played with. He showed an early love for art. He created a Pan-American art of human and social inequalities which achieved international recognition. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Quito as a painter and sculptor. He also studied architecture there. He held his first exhibition when he was 23, in 1942. While he was attending college, his best friend died during a demonstration in Quito. This incident would later inspire one of his paintings, Los Niños Muertos (The Dead Children). This event also helped him to form his vision about the people and the society that he lived in. Career Guayasamín started painting from the time he was six years old. He loved to draw from that age. Starting from watercolors and transforming all the way through to his signature humanity pieces, his art career had many highlights. Although tragedy molded Guayasamín's work, it was his friend's death that inspired him to paint powerful symbols of truth in society and injustices around him. While his interest was seldom with his school work, he began selling his art before the time that he could even read. After his attendance at the School of Fine Arts in Quito, his career took off. La Galería Caspicara, an art gallery opened by Eduardo Kingman...

Brass Pheasant Pair
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a beautiful, matched pair of decorative brass pheasants. With finely detailed feathers and angled heads, this is an expressive pair of birds. The bird sit very well together, with their distinctive long tails stretching out behind them. Throughout the late 1800s, pheasants motifs could be found on elaborate English and American china patterns, tapestries, and silver pieces. This fascination with pheasants came from the long-standing tradition of pheasant hunting, which was a popular group activity on English estates and country homes. Decorative silver and bronze statuettes modeled as birds or scenes of fox hunting, for example, would have been displayed in a home to represent a homeowner's participation in the sport or hobby. Although made in the 20th century, this pheasant pair...

"Instinct" Bronze Sculpture by Mark Hopkins, 1998
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an original bronze Western wildlife sculpture by American artist Mark Hopkins. The bronze is titled “Instinct” and depicts two expertly sculpted wolf heads. Using the involved and lengthy method of lost-wax casting, “Instinct” captures the intensity of the wolves’ focused, expressive gazes. Stacked and connected, the sculpture expertly plays with negative space and scale, as a rocky base twists and flows into the chest of the first wolf. The bronze is signed and dated in the mold to the back of one of the wolves. Artist Mark Hopkins (American, b. 1965 ) is inspired by the majesty of wildlife and mankind's interaction with nature. He creates limited-edition bronzes that evoke “a sense of awe and respect for the mysteries and loveliness of the world around us.” A master of the lost-wax casting tradition, Hopkins’ bronzes have been called “bronze in motion” for their fluid look, which often appears to display natural beauty in defiance of gravity. Captivated by form and design, Mark has created a signature sculpting style resulting from decades of study. Encouraged by parents and teachers from an early age, Mark's unique talent developed alongside his technical skills of sculpting and casting. As an artist, Mark is constantly challenging himself to render the rich beauty of life and the deep emotion of the human soul into flowing sculptural form, noting "I strive to express beyond the image, to catch spirit, to reveal deeper emotions, and to share joy." Collectors of his work include Barbara Mandrell, Clint Eastwood, Bill Clinton, Colin Powell, George and Barbara Bush and a host of other luminaries and corporations including the National League Association of Baseball Club Owners, the Atlanta National Golf Club, Humana, Coca-Cola and others. Each Mark Hopkins sculpture...
