The Lions of Florence, Monumental Pair of Italian Carved Limestone Medici Lions

Located in Dallas, TX

The monumental size of this pair of hand-carved limestone lions is quite impressive, and their stature has been embellished by positioning them on classic, rectangular pedestals. Han Dynasty Polychromed Horse and Rider
Han Dynasty Polychromed Horse and Rider

Han Dynasty Polychromed Horse and Rider

Located in Dallas, TX

A fine Han dynasty polychrome painted terracotta horse and rider. The warrior is dressed in orange and black on a black horse. Measures: Height 14 inches (35 cm) Width 12.5 inches (32 cm). Condition: Excellent with tastefully undetectable repairs. During the unification of China under the Han dynasty, bands of mounted nomadic warriors from the north threatened the country. In order to thwart their attacks, the Chinese sought to import stronger, faster steeds from Central Asia (as opposed to the Mongol ponies used by the invaders), eventually leading to the creation of the Silk Road. This small sculpture of a mounted soldier reveals the crucial military role of the horse. When compared to the diminutive stature of the rider, the importance of the horse becomes readily apparent. This creature provided security and strength, allowing the empire to secure its borders and expand its influences across Central Asia. The magnificent regalia of the horse, including a brilliantly painted saddle in red and green/gold, reflect the respect this animal received. The warrior as well is gorgeously decorated with a painted red tunic and gray chest...

Circa 1800 Carved Oak Sculptures of the Apostles, James, John, Peter, and Paul

Located in Dallas, TX

Hand-carved in oak, circa 1800, these sculptures depict arguably the most important apostles: James, John, Peter, and Paul. All of the figures are distinctly different, although they share some commonalities, such as they are all barefoot and clad in ankle length tunics on a rectangular base with canted corners. The set would make fantastic decorative art for a mantel, shelf, or sofa table. The apostles as they appear in the main photo (from left to right): St. James (20 ¼” H x 7 ½” W x 5 ½” D): sometimes referred to as “James the Great”, he is depicted with long hair and a full beard above a cloak pinned...

Pair of Han Dynasty Pottery Horses and Equestrian Riders

Located in Dallas, TX

A wonderful pair of Ex Sotheby’s painted Polychrome Equestrian Horse and Riders made from gray pottery, Presents beautifully and guaranteed authentic with provenance and COA. Measures: Height 11.5 inches and width 11 inches Condition: Possible professional restorations but not detectable. Provenance: Sotheby’s London. 16th November, 1999. Lot 12 (2 of 4 horses in that lot). Sotheby’s New York, NY September 14, 2019. The importance of the horse in the history and culture of China can be viewed, in part, through the artistic legacy of this great civilization. In sculpture, painting, and literature, horses were glorified and revered. Horses were believed to be related to mythological dragons, reflecting their sacred status within society. During the unification of China under the Han Dynasty, bands of mounted nomadic warriors from the north threatened the country. Nayarit Pottery Fertility Female Figure With Child

By Nayarit Culture

Located in Dallas, TX

Nayarit Fertility Female Figure With Child Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A seated terracotta female figure from the shaft tomb tradition, shown cradling an infant over her right shoulder - likely a symbolic representation of fertility, maternity, and the continuity of life. This expressive red-slipped sculpture is boldly modeled with exaggerated limbs and stylized facial features, impressed eyes, a broad nose adorned with a septum piercing, and ear ornaments. Her elaborate coiffure is incised with vertical striations and rises into a high crest, pierced at the top with a vent hole connecting to the hollow interior. Manganese blooms across the surface attest to its long burial. Such figures were ritually interred in shaft tombs to accompany the dead, offering symbolic protection or ensuring rebirth in the afterlife. Dimensions: 4 Inches Wide x 8.4 Inches Height (10.2 cm x 21.1 cm) Condition: Presents beautifully with restorations to the head. Provenance: Collection of Y. Kayvan, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from a Los Angeles, California, USA gallery acquisition dates range from the late 1990s to 2005 Legal to acquire under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14.
