Blue Ochre (Abstract Encaustic Painting with Indigo, Teal, and Beige Fabrics)

By Alaina Enslen

Located in Hudson, NY

Abstract encaustic painting with dyed teal, indigo, beige, and white dyed fabrics "Blue Ochre & White Lies" made by Hudson Valley artist, Alaina Enslen, in 2022 Encaustic & dyed fabrics mounted on panel 16 x 20 inches, 17 x 21 inches framed Excellent condition, ready to hang Lightweight Signed, verso This abstract minimalist painting is made with repurposed pieces of found fabrics in complementary tones of teal, indigo, and beige on an encaustic white background. The fabrics, which are adhered to a light wood Birch panel and layered with a subtle layer of encaustic, are arranged in a whimsical motif that accentuates the spontaneous dyed patterns. The layers of fabric and encaustic create a textured, impasto surface. About the artist: Alaina Enslen expresses her artistic vision through repurposed fabrics infused with beeswax. The Cornwall-On-Hudson based artist collects pieces of textile that evoke memory, tradition, or experience like cherished worn heirlooms, discarded clothes, and religious garments, which are then assembled on panel in an abstract patchwork. Favoring fabrics with a neutral or subtle cool palette, she flattens and frays the material to explore color, form, and lines, reimaging used cloth...

Opening No. 50 (Abstract Landscape Painting on Canvas in Romanticist Style)

Opening No. 50 (Abstract Landscape Painting on Canvas in Romanticist Style)

By Leigh Palmer

Located in Hudson, NY

Contemporary, abstracted landscape reminiscent of Hudson River School & Romanticist painters oil on canvas 40 x 48 inches Romantic (yet modern) Hudson River oil landscape painting of a vast field in the foreground with a red and blue sunset sky in the background. This painting is of a horizontal orientation and is finished with an olive green border painted directly onto the canvas. The edges are finished with the same color, so no additional frame required here. Once a hard edge realist painter, the artist eschews those details, letting the stroke of his brush and moody palette leave an abstract implication of the landscape. In the Openings series, Palmer integrates the frame into the painting. This element contributes to the narrative, suggesting the viewer is inside looking out. We are not a part of the landscape, rather we are a peaceful witnesses to nature that will transcend even our own existence and continue to change with the seasons long after we have passed. We are romanced by Leigh Palmer's unique ability to pare down and find the true essence of the landscape, gently veiled through his own soul. We are proud to have exhibited his work since the inception in 1991. Artist Statement: My paintings are based on observation of the landscape in the Hudson River Valley where I live, and are improvised in the studio; the images are found or discovered in my memory of familiar places and developed during the painting process. Human beings do not appear, but their presence is felt in the marks left on the ground (furrows, fence rows, roads), and sometimes in the air (smoke, haze). About the artist: In 1987, Leigh Palmer moved with his family from suburban Duxbury, Massachusetts, to Tivoli, New York, a quiet town on the Hudson River, north of New York City. His subject matter shifted to the sprawling hills and countryside of the Hudson Valley. “I wanted to respond to the new landscape I was seeing, to catch something of the feeling I had just before dark,” says Palmer. “I took a lot of photographs, but I was happier with the paintings I created from memory.” Leigh Palmer has been represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY for over 25 years. In the Afterglow (Contemporary Atmospheric Landscape Color Field Painting)
In the Afterglow (Contemporary Atmospheric Landscape Color Field Painting)

In the Afterglow (Contemporary Atmospheric Landscape Color Field Painting)

By Jane Bloodgood-Abrams

Located in Hudson, NY

Modern Luminist, Hudson River School landscape painting on canvas of the expansive view over the Hudson River as observed at the top of Olana, the historic home of Frederic Church "In the Afterglow" by Jane Bloodgood-Abrams, painted in 2021 Horizontal landscape painting, 48 x 60 x 1 inches unframed with white painted sides wired on reverse for easy hanging Artist's signature is located on lower left Acclaimed artist of the Hudson Valley, Jane Bloodgood, takes her painting to a new level with a new work entitled "In the Afterglow". Her interpretation of this very iconic view (observed from the top of Olana, the historic home of Frederic Church located near Hudson, NY) is set during the very quiet moments of a summer's evening when the sun has dipped beyond the mountains. The crystal blue sky illuminates with the sun's setting rays; a golden band of yellow haze otherwise known as "The Venus Belt" is an atmospheric phenomenon only visible shortly before sunrise or right before sunset. The water reflects the pink and purple glow that forms near the horizon; the dusty shadows of trees tower over the water's edge. We marvel at how simply Jane captures a complex phenomenon, evidence of her unparalleled ability to paint light and endow her work with luminosity. Yet this painting succeeds not only in its representation of the actual landscape and the awe produced by the experience, but also in its contemporary abstraction of atomsphere. The big, open blue sky is stacked with the colors of the sunset against the horizon, calling to mind a Rothko or the other great color field painters who achieve mood and depth from singular color. About the work: Painter Jane Bloodgood-Abrams has become one of the area’s most celebrated artists, gracing viewers with her compositions of sky, river, and earth. Being less concerned with documenting specific scenes, Bloodgood-Abrams is focused on capturing nature’s essence, “the deeply profound moments, where there is a connection to a vital energy.” Her process begins with being in nature, where she allows the emotional energy of the landscape to filter through her psyche. The memory is then translated onto canvas after being worked over a period of time with layers of paint that is applied, wiped away, and reworked. The result is a radiantly dramatic remembrance of Bloodgood-Abram’s encounter with “something beyond everyday life”. The artist’s final hope is for these images to evoke remembrances within the viewer's own personal relationship with nature. Artist Biography: Jane Bloodgood Abrams was born in Queens, New York. She received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, in 1985. Three years later, she earned a Master’s of Fine Arts at the State University of New York in New Paltz. Now she paints in the Hudson River Valley and the Berkshires. Oil painting on canvas, unframed 32 x 27 inches This still life oil painting of a bouquet of vibrant lilies, roses and irises was painted by Hudson Valley-based artist Dale Payson. The range of canary and pastel yellows, emerald green, beige and burnt umber hues that span the canvas are complimented by Payson's skillfully executed impasto technique. Large and Important Louis XVI Style Console Table from Blairsden House
Large and Important Louis XVI Style Console Table from Blairsden House

Large and Important Louis XVI Style Console Table from Blairsden House

Located in Hudson, NY

This very impressive console table comes from the famous American Country house Blairsden. This house built in Peapack NJ for C. Ledyard Blair and Mrs. Florence Blair between 1898 and 1903. The house was created and decorated by the important architectural firm of Carrere & Hastings. The firm produced many homes, churches, monuments and public buildings for America's gilded age notables. Blairsden boasts extensive landscaped gardens in the manner of the French Baroque in the tradition of Andre Le Notre. The interiors as well where extensively set out and incorporated appropriate French and English furniture complimenting the decorative schemes. No expense was spared to create this house and grounds based on the ideals of Edwardian splendor and the ideal modern residence. This house was listed in 1903 upon its completion in the survey of American Estates & Gardens published by Barr Ferree. While much was spoken of its location, setting, architectural accomplishments and style the summation of the listing called "Blairsden one of the most elaborate and extensive schemes of its kind ever carried out in America." This table was formally part of the dining rooms complete redecoration by the architectural firm carried out in 1913. The room was originally planned around dark paneling and a warm even family-style catering to their children. The new rooms scheme was greatly enlarged and lightened up considerably by extensive plasterwork and painting in the Adams style. This table and a mate was used to center two opposing walls and complimented the inset painted panels and plasterwork ceiling which contained many references to swags, pateria, and other classical motifs. This table has been pictured in several period photographs and the house is extensively spoken of in the comprehensive book published in 2006 by Acanthus Press encompassing the principles ideals and the extent of there work especially in the Beaux-Arts...

sepia toned silver gelatin print, edition 1 of 25 17.5 x 17.5 inches unframed, 30.5 x 30.5 inches framed Frame is dark brown wood molding, 8 ply antique white mat and glass Sepia toned silver gelatin print of a serenely still lake in Louisiana When Time Stands Still. The Photographs of David Halliday Whether traveling to a foreign land, wandering through a neighborhood marketto shop for food, or engaging in convivial conversation with a friend at his home,David Halliday is easily charmed, intrigued, excited, or amused by all that surroundshim. An artful documenter of life, Haliday uses his camera as a tool for recording themultitudinous special moments that capture his attention. Once in the darkroom, heeditorializes his finds, subtly embellishing each image until it somehow evokes thesensation that led him to photograph a subject in the first place. With the exception of a series of platinum print portraits, Halliday produces all of hisphotographs as sepia toned silver gelatin prints. Both processes are highly trad-itional and, in requiring that the artist avoid the use of any color other than sepia, they stand in sharp contrast to splashier modes such as Cibachrome, Polaroid, or digitally produced Iris prints […]. For Halliday, the warm tones afforded by age-old processes reflect his desire to reclaim the past or cherish the present in the form of soft, tranquil, frozen moments...
