End of Summer (Realist Black & White Still Life Landscape of Lily Pads on Water)

By Betsy Weis

Located in Hudson, NY

Minimalist landscape photograph of black and white lily pads on water "End of Summer", photographed by Betsy Weis in 2006 archival inkjet print on watercolor paper 20 x 30 inches, 27 x 37 inches in white frame with white mat & anti-reflective non-glare glass Wire backing for easy installation, ready to hang as is Photographed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, this black and white archival pigment print by Betsy Weis captures a cluster of water lilies afloat on a glassy, onyx-like body of water. Looming clouds are reflected in the pond's serene surface. Crisp, moody, and rich in texture, the photograph can stand on its own as a quiet glimpse at nature, or can be juxtaposed with others in the series to form a more complete vision. This photograph is available unframed, $1700. The image measures 20 x 30 inches, and the paper measures 24 x 26 inches. Artist statement: Nature provides the perfect model of beauty, according to Plato and Socrates. In the classical period, something was considered beautiful because it existed in nature; art was secondary. In the 18th Century, the German philosopher Johann Joachim Winckelmann argued against the idea that art imitates life, believing that qualities superior to nature are found in art, specifically, ideal beauty, and “brain-born images”. Neoclassical thought represented that art need not serve any end other than its own existence. For me, beauty is an ideal, nature is real, and art comes from the brain. I take pictures in nature, finding shifting, disparate, and beautiful landscapes. I develop my pictures of trees...

Opening No. 50 (Abstract Landscape Painting on Canvas in Romanticist Style)

Opening No. 50 (Abstract Landscape Painting on Canvas in Romanticist Style)

By Leigh Palmer

Located in Hudson, NY

Contemporary, abstracted landscape reminiscent of Hudson River School & Romanticist painters oil on canvas 40 x 48 inches Romantic (yet modern) Hudson River oil landscape painting of a vast field in the foreground with a red and blue sunset sky in the background. This painting is of a horizontal orientation and is finished with an olive green border painted directly onto the canvas. The edges are finished with the same color, so no additional frame required here. Once a hard edge realist painter, the artist eschews those details, letting the stroke of his brush and moody palette leave an abstract implication of the landscape. In the Openings series, Palmer integrates the frame into the painting. This element contributes to the narrative, suggesting the viewer is inside looking out. We are not a part of the landscape, rather we are a peaceful witnesses to nature that will transcend even our own existence and continue to change with the seasons long after we have passed. We are romanced by Leigh Palmer's unique ability to pare down and find the true essence of the landscape, gently veiled through his own soul. We are proud to have exhibited his work since the inception in 1991. Artist Statement: My paintings are based on observation of the landscape in the Hudson River Valley where I live, and are improvised in the studio; the images are found or discovered in my memory of familiar places and developed during the painting process. Human beings do not appear, but their presence is felt in the marks left on the ground (furrows, fence rows, roads), and sometimes in the air (smoke, haze). About the artist: In 1987, Leigh Palmer moved with his family from suburban Duxbury, Massachusetts, to Tivoli, New York, a quiet town on the Hudson River, north of New York City. His subject matter shifted to the sprawling hills and countryside of the Hudson Valley. “I wanted to respond to the new landscape I was seeing, to catch something of the feeling I had just before dark,” says Palmer. “I took a lot of photographs, but I was happier with the paintings I created from memory.” Leigh Palmer has been represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY for over 25 years. Located in Hudson, NY

Vase in the Window (Impressionist Floral Still Life of Magenta Pink Peony Flowers in a Vase Against an Off-White Window Scene) by David Konigsberg oil on panel 50 x 36 x 1.5 inches no frame required - painting is wired on reverse for easy installation Signed by the artist, verso This painting is an exquisite example of the artist's unique ability to capture the very whimsical side of nature. Widely known for painting expansive views of the Hudson Valley where the artist often embarks on extensive hiking trails, Konigsberg also takes to painting more intimate and commonplace household objects. A coffee pot, salt and pepper shaker, or as in this case, a simple bouquet of long stemmed pink peonies careening over the side of a green vase; his use of oil washes capture both fluidity and structure. The fanciful treatment of the flowers calls to mind French Impressionist Toulouse Latrec...

Fine Edwardian Satinwood and Mahogany Paint Decorated Planter

By Angelica Kauffmann

Located in Hudson, NY

This fine painted decorated planter in the manner of Angelica Kauffman was created in England circa 1890 to 1900. Hepplewhite in style the planter was made in England during the Edwardian era. This time saw a great rise in revival styles and culminated with the out break of the first world war. Hepplewhite design is most often associated with fine detail contrasting wood veneers and inlay , delicate painted details and a definite reference to historical precedents. Referencing Kauffman herself the piece is reminiscent of works in her historical painterly style. She i known to have painted a number of commissions on furniture while living in England as well a being one of only two female founding members of the Royal Academy. She classified herself as a painter of historical imagery but is also known for her many significant painting and portraits and scenes of late 18th century upper class life. Many engravings used as pattern survive giving her style and work a great reach in paint decorated furniture...

Tree Farm, East Hampton, NY

Tree Farm, East Hampton, NY

By Robin Rice

Located in Hudson, NY

Robin Rice is a successful gallerist and photographer having spent the past 40 years living and working in New York City and Bridgehampton. While still the owner of the Robin Rice Gallery in New York City, where she continues to represent and nurture artists from around the world, she has taken the bold step of moving to the Lofts in Beacon, NY to focus on her own work as a fine art photographer. Robin is carefully unearthing and curating her extensive personal collection dating back to when she was 16 years old. Her mission is simple: to document the world around her in a cinematic way. Whether capturing the grit of New York in its glory days of Studio 54 or the innate beauty of tucked-away South American landscapes or the reflective moments of unknowing subjects, her photographs are always authentic. As a photographer, she has a dreamy and bohemian way of portraying people and situations that is reflective of the way she lives her life situations connecting to people through art, food, travel and dance. Her meticulous eye, attention to detail and innate instinct for visual excellence are only some of the traits that make Robin’s photography exceptional in every way. This photograph shows Robin's love for classic black and white American photography. As she captures a woman biking through a Hampton's tree farm...

Vortices (Minimalist Abstract Color Field Painting in Aqua, Deep Blue, & Black)

By Shawn Snow

Located in Hudson, NY

Horizontal minimalist abstract acrylic painting in color fields of aqua, deep blue and black. oil and alkyd on canvas in a Larson Juhl black wood recessed framed Inspired by stones, stains from nature, erosion and artists such as Rothko and Sam Francis, Snow produces meditative fields of brilliant aqua, blue and black color by layering oil paints with a fast drying alkyd medium. The network of layers are bound to a complex under-painting with broad bands of pigment while the rapid drying alkyd allows Snow to continue the succession quite quickly, revealing beautiful boundaries of color. With his painting Snow strives for purity, seeking depth without illusion, using horizons of colors as a harmonious language to create chords, scales and tones. The artist has exhibited extensively in the New England region and has shown with Carrie Haddad Gallery for more than ten years. Surface texture of this painting is incredibly smooth due to the combination of paint and chemicals used. Palette is a brilliant aqua and...
