This minimalist, non-objective painting spanning 3 panels is the work of Ginny Fox, whose process is based on overlapping streaks of paint. Working with rags instead of brushes, Fox’s hand moves along parallel paths, emergent shades of dark and lime green cascading gently towards the edges of the compositional plane. A vaporous texture characterizes the outer layers of the work, the interwoven strands of color offering glimpses at the painting’s earthy base and hinting at the artist’s gradual process.
The panels can be oriented vertically or horizontally and can be easily installed with just two nails each.
Artist statement:
My paintings merge the detailed textures and colors found in the natural world with the linear and geometric patterns visible in industrial and architectural structures. The interplay of these elements drives the work and provides a platform for constant change and narrative. By simultaneously layering and removing paint with rags instead of brushes, my hand is directly involved with the process. Each piece contains multiple panels that evoke a nuanced and evolving universe.
About the artist:
Having received her education from New York University in the 1970s, Ginny Fox has since exhibited throughout the United States, especially in New York City and the northeastern U.S.

Artist Statement:
My paintings are a merging of textures and colors referencing both organic and fabricated materials. I am inspired equally by patterns in nature, as well as those in textiles, architecture, and a myriad of manufactured elements. After many years living in the Bronx, I recently moved back to the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where the confluence of the Hudson River, its rocky environs, and multiple architectural structures has become a renewed source of inspiration. My studio in Yonkers, N.Y. is in a turn of the century carpet mill overlooking hills and industrial complexes, another locale containing the merging of elements so integral to my work. Layers of time evident in random markings on stone; light raked across water and sky; the open weave of moss covered earth -- all inform the work, resulting in a cohesive entity. By layering and removing paint with rags instead of brushes, my hand is directly involved with the process. Many of the paintings are comprised of multiple panels, allowing for a subtle narrative of a nuanced and evolving universe.
