No. 2, Cubes (Abstract Cameraless Photograph with checknboard motif, Framed)
By Birgit Blyth
Located in Hudson, NY
Abstract digital print on black/white photo paper 25.5 x 21.5 inches in custom black stained wood frame with black 8 ply mat and AR non glare glass Pairs well with Ref: LU2272395053 These energetic prints are digital copies of original handmade monoprints by photographer Birgit Blyth. Without the use of a camera, the artist produced the original chromoskedasic image by painting with the photographic chemicals directly onto black and white photo pager and exposing it to light. The rich black, faded gold, and crisp white tones are determined by the different chemicals used and the amount of time they are exposed to light. In this piece, Blyth painted gestural, intersecting lines to create a grid-like pattern that falls back in space. About the artist and work: Birgit Blyth is one of our most innovative and prolific photographers who works in a darkroom yet uses no camera! Blyth has been experimenting with a technique known as Chromoskedasic painting since the early ‘90s and variations on this concept have been shown at the gallery for the last 20 years. The unusual process involves the use of silver particles in black and white photographic paper to scatter light at different wavelengths when exposed. A chemist of sorts, Blyth demonstrates a thorough knowledge of how the various photographic chemicals will react when applied to paper and exposed. Each work is unique with palettes that resonate brilliant tonalities of brown, green, black, and purple. Using this technique, Blyth creates abstract crosshatching grids and most recently has developed a more gestural series of 20 x 16 inch chromoskedasic paintings that explores the ethereal qualities made possible by the unconventional material. Birgit Blyth succeeds at keeping her work fresh and cutting-edge using analog methods that are being quickly replaced elsewhere with digital technology. Artist Resume: Born: Kousted, Denmark Resident in U.S.A. since 1963 Education: Denmark and U.S.A. Dreamer (Contemporary, Abstract Painting in Earth Toned Brown Palette)
By Christopher Engel
Located in Hudson, NY
Abstract painting on curved canvas in warm, orange and yellow palette oil on canvas on unique artist made stretcher 36 x 74 inches This curved canvas was painted by abstract artist Christopher Engel in 2006. The abstract expressionist style painting contains dramatic splashes of canary and golden yellows, crimson, and coral against a dark umber background. A sturdy wire spanning the back of the painting provides for instant, professional-quality hanging. Christopher Engel is represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY. Artist Statement: The Fan Shaped Paintings evolved from the process of mixing paint in paper coffee cups. As I noticed the intriguing arrangement and patterns of color and shapes in the mixing cups I began to set the cups aside to save those images. Years later, I began unfolding the stacks of cups I had saved to see the images and patterns of color. I was also attracted to the fan-like shape of the opened cups. The spontaneous nature of the color and shapes on my palette of “coffee cups” became the genesis of the creation of the Fan Paintings. Chain Link (Nautical Minimalist Circle-Shaped Archival Pigment Print)
By David Halliday
Located in Hudson, NY
archival pigment print, edition of 20 image is 16 inches in diameter This minimalist circular archival pigment print depiccting a rusted length of chain is the work of Hudson Valley-based photographer David Halliday. Halliday adopts a nautical theme with this photograph, a choice that is consistent with much of his photography. Halliday splits the background of the composition horizontally and diametrically into textured taupe and non-textured white planes, grounding the composition, as ever, in minimalism and sophistication. About the artist: Whether traveling to a foreign land, wandering through a neighborhood marketto shop for food, or engaging in convivial conversation with a friend at his home,David Halliday is easily charmed, intrigued, excited, or amused by all that surroundshim. An artful documenter of life, Haliday uses his camera as a tool for recording themultitudinous special moments that capture his attention. Once in the darkroom, heeditorializes his finds, subtly embellishing each image until it somehow evokes thesensation that led him to photograph a subject in the first place. With the exception of a series of platinum print portraits, Halliday produces all of hisphotographs as sepia toned silver gelatin prints. Both processes are highly trad-itional and, in requiring that the artist avoid the use of any color other than sepia, they stand in sharp contrast to splashier modes such as Cibachrome, Polaroid, or digitally produced Iris prints […]. For Halliday, the warm tones afforded by age-old processes reflect his desire to reclaim the past or cherish the present in the form of soft, tranquil, frozen moments...

Ballet Dancer in Abandoned Theater. Havana, Cuba
By David Saxe
Located in Hudson, NY
David Saxe - “Photography has always been the simple act of looking and being inspired to strip the unnecessary elements from the scene and frame the image down in a way to discover what is not apparent on the surface. My photographs are as much about me as what I am seeing: In Southern California, 2010 is a perfect example of this process of seeing. When I first noticed this scene, it was a simple mural of a whale on a wall. After looking at it for a while I realized that by eliminating the sky and foreground from the image the whale now had an undulating rhythm and movement. In another image Restaurant Hostess, Palm Beach, FL 2012, I would go to this restaurant every week and sit in the bar behind the reception area. One day, I turned around and saw the back of a woman. Through this process of deductive framing, the image became one of dark shadows rhythmically trickling down her back interwoven with the tattoo of the lizard. David Saxe was born in Montreal, Québec, Canada in 1943 and studied fine art at l’ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal.
