Untitled (Walking Dog), Collage in Original Tin Frame by Rodolfo Morales
Untitled (Walking Dog), Collage in Original Tin Frame by Rodolfo Morales

Untitled (Walking Dog), Collage in Original Tin Frame by Rodolfo Morales

Located in Palm Springs, CA

A charming and characteristic mixed-media collage by Mexican master Rodolfo Morales (1925–2001), featuring a stylized black dog set against a shimmering silver ground and surrounded by hearts, flowers, and textile elements. Morales is celebrated for his dreamlike blend of folk tradition, magical realism, and Oaxacan village imagery, and dogs appear frequently among his recurring motifs. This work is constructed from layered papers, ribbon, foil, and applied decorative materials, all housed in its original hand-tooled tin frame. The frame is stamped “Tirso Cuevas”, identifying one of the well-known Oaxacan tinsmiths who collaborated with Morales during the 1980s–1990s on his collage-mounted works. Signed “Rodolfo Morales” at lower right. Medium: Mixed-media collage (paper, foil, ribbon, applied materials) Support: Artist’s original tin frame, stamped Tirso Cuevas Period: c. 1980s–1990s Signature: Signed lower right Condition: Very good, with expected minor surface irregularities inherent to Morales’ collage technique and original tinwork Provenance: Private collection, USA A delightful example of Morales’s playful, folk-surrealist sensibility — rich in color, texture, and the poetic spirit of Oaxaca. About the Artist Rodolfo Morales is widely regarded as a pillar of modern Mexican art, alongside Rufino Tamayo and Francisco Toledo. Born in Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca, he developed a unique language of floating figures, vivid color, and architectural reminiscence grounded in Mexican folklore. His collages, in particular, display an extraordinary fusion of surrealist sensibility and vernacular craft traditions, incorporating lace, tin, antique paper, textiles, and devotional materials. Morales’ works are held in major private and public collections worldwide and continue to command strong interest among collectors of Latin American Modernism, Magical Realism, and Oaxacan art.

The Pearl Royale is the most luxurious vibrator ever created. This exquisite sculpture is a truly unique piece of contemporary jewelry art that will be recognized for centuries to come. Sculpture comes with Limited Edition Artist Certificate of Authenticity and Jewelry Certificate of Materials. Artists Inspiration: “To encourage discussion and question society on the value we place on the sexual experience. From my observations it seems society could not reconcile such a luxurious item for the act of sex. I was of the mindset if we accept genuine luxury into other aspects of our lives then why not the sexual experience. It had to be outlandishly lavish with a high level of status, so the term fit for a king or queen was foremost in my mind. I wanted to create a unique piece of jewelry art that would hold its own and could proudly sit along side the world's finest crown jewels. Ultimately for me it symbolizes how we should Treasure the Erotic.” ABOUT COLIN BURN: Australian artist Colin Burn is a bold provocateur in the world of conceptual art, using his work to disrupt societal norms and spark critical dialogue often around uncomfortable truths. His art pushes boundaries, urging viewers to rethink their assumptions on value, power, and meaning, especially in contexts often deemed taboo or overlooked. Known for his masterful fusion of symbolism and opulence, Burn transforms ordinary objects into potent allegories, frequently employing their high monetary value to amplify the emotional and intellectual resonance of his themes. He understands that society frequently ties value to price, and this awareness is central to his approach. With an attention-grabbing allure, Burn’s work invites viewers to look beyond the surface, encouraging them to explore the deeper, often concealed meanings behind what they see—reminding them that true value lies not only in the material cost, but in the idea or theme that it represents. A compelling example of this is his Pearl Royale chess set...

Max Manning is a Houston-based painter whose practice he describes as “algorithmic abstraction”, studio-built systems that he deliberately disrupts to create compositions where loosely figurative fragments, patterns, and color fields collide. Working in series, Manning sets up rule-driven visual frameworks such as grids, repeated motifs, cut-outs, and layered shapes, and then interrupts them through shifts in palette, gesture, and scale. The result is a retro-contemporary language: paintings that acknowledge a world shaped by data and screens while insisting on the tactility, stillness, and breath of paint. • One-of-a-kind abstract artwork on paper measuring 20 x 16 inches • Unframed and signed by the artist on the back • Includes certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery • Convenient local Los Angeles delivery available • Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping available Across his practice, Manning has maintained a clear studio ethos: to “paint through the questions” of life lived alongside algorithms. Instead of reproducing digital aesthetics, he uses rule sets to destabilize them—allowing glitches, misalignments, and pauses to surface. The work’s visual “systems” act less like predictive code and more like open, humanized structures where attention can rest. This stance has resonated with curators and collectors attuned to abstraction’s current arc: grounded in art-historical form, responsive to contemporary cognition, and committed to the slow time of looking. Manning earned a BFA in Two-Dimensional Studies from Bowling Green State University (2011) and an MFA from the University of Cincinnati (2014). His work has been exhibited widely in the U.S. and abroad and gained early institutional and critical attention through selection for the 2017 Texas Biennial, curated by Leslie Moody Castro, with press coverage in Texas arts media. Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Max Manning's original artworks since 2025. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. The gallery exhibits a large selection of affordable original artworks from established and emerging international artists with diverse backgrounds at high standards. Artspace Warehouse is known to provide accurate descriptions, images, reliable services, communication, and delivery. Mixed media is a type of art that sees artists using a range of materials or more than one medium. Find a range of mixed media paintings and other artworks for your space today on 1stDibs.

Mixed media is distinct from multimedia, which describes art involving electronic media, including video, computers and digital elements. Artists combine painting, drawing, photography and sculpture for mixed media art. Instead of sticking to one form, they aim to break boundaries and create unique pieces. Pop art is one of the vibrant periods for mixed media art, with Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg among its most fabled producers. Rauschenberg, like many mixed media artists, used found objects in his work, from cast-off furniture to newspapers.

Collage is one of the most well-known areas of mixed media. Artists use various types of paper, fabric, photographs and more to create one cohesive work. A type of collage is assemblage, which involves 3D objects.

While artists may use fabric in collage, it can be the very substance of the art itself. Fabric art makes extensive use of texture. Artists may paint or embroider on fabric to create layers of texture and color to evoke a specific feeling. They can also transfer photos onto fabric for innovative ways to display visuals.

Resin-based art has clean, sharp lines and a definitive shape. Resin is a liquid that hardens to a high-gloss surface and is used to seal wood, counters and floors. Resin can also seal artwork, and many artists tint it using pigment powder, ink, spray paint and other vivid materials. If water is added, the resin will turn milky instead of being completely transparent. It’s common for artists working in mixed media to use resin on nontraditional surfaces like glass, wood, metal and stone. This creates a shine that’s perfect to brighten a dull space in the home or office.
