The Air Holds Our Names - Abstract Textured Surrealist Landscape Oil Painting

By Reynier Llanes

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Reynnier Llanes’ oil and mixed media paintings invite the viewer into a cinematic world where realism meets allegory. Llanes’ storytelling is layered and poetic, offering moments that reward slow looking as meaning gathers through atmosphere, gesture, and metaphor. • One-of-a-kind original oil and mixed media painting on canvas measuring 57 inches square • Professionally stretched, wired, and ready to hang • Signed by the artist on the front and back • Certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included • Convenient local Los Angeles area delivery • Affordable U.S. and international shipping available Reynier Llanes is a Cuban born contemporary painter recognized for richly detailed narrative works shaped by memory, folklore, and a magical realist sensibility. He trained in Pinar del Río, later moving to Havana before emigrating to the United States, where his practice continued to evolve through sustained attention to craft, symbolism, and storytelling. Across his broader body of work, Llanes often builds dreamlike environments where nature and daily life take on allegorical roles, reflecting on identity, belief, and belonging. He is also known for incorporating Cuban espresso coffee in works on paper, a material choice that deepens the connection between medium, cultural memory, and lived experience, while reinforcing his ongoing interest in how personal history can be carried through image and narrative. Artplex Gallery has been representing and exhibiting Reynnier Llanes’s original artworks in Los Angeles since 2026, presenting his impressive works to an international collector base around the globe. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. The gallery exhibits a well-curated selection of original artworks beyond the ordinary from established and emerging international artists with diverse backgrounds at high standards. Martin worked as the assistant to legendary artist Sam Gilliam for 12 years in his D.C. studio, after graduating from Carnegie Mellon where Sam was his Masters Mentor and guide. Music Sonata In A Shadow Box
Music Sonata In A Shadow Box

Music Sonata In A Shadow Box

By Erik J. Erikson

Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL

Music Sonata In A Shadow Box 2023 Mixed Media, artist signed, front Plexiglas. This sculpture is perfect for the wall or a coffee table. This 3D music diorama found its home in a drawer from an antique Tansu Chest. Some of the 3D elements were made by Erikson. Antique materials achieve a vintage and interesting aesthetic. The depth of the case creates a stage like atmosphere as sort of a visual guide for the viewers eye. The overlapping and juxtaposition of the elements creates a intriguing and appealing composition. Very often Erikson art echoes and fuses antiquity and modernity. Erikson’s central imagery concerns itself with intrigue and a sense of surprise. His body of work is often dispersed with visual, tactile and intellectual delights that lead the viewer on their own form of discovery. Erikson’s awareness of the aesthetic in sending things back in time is a result of studying the Renaissance and other periods of art history. This infusion of historical art references has had a vital effect on his body of work. Heavily influenced by the well known New York art dealer Allan Stone (who represented, among other giants, Joseph Cornell, and Willem de Kooning, Erikson has never departed from Stone’s insistence that “surprise” should remain with a piece of art no matter how long it is viewed. The discipline of archeology decodes messages of the past to find meanings of objects and classify them. This observation takes the viewer on a deeper understanding of the interplay. As a curator of his own “museum cases” in other work, Erikson’s personal vocabulary evokes images of extreme preciousness combined in miniature settings. Despite its minute scale his work commands presence and a sense of vastness. In his body of work, Erikson attempts to introduce sculpture to painting as a way of integrating the second and third dimensions. Exhibited: Allan Stone Gallery - New York, New York Elaine Baker Gallery - Boca Raton, Florida Renata Fine Arts Gallery - West Palm Beach, Florida Winfield Gallery...

Shop Mixed Media Paintings and Other Art

Mixed media is a type of art that sees artists using a range of materials or more than one medium. Find a range of mixed media paintings and other artworks for your space today on 1stDibs.

Mixed media is distinct from multimedia, which describes art involving electronic media, including video, computers and digital elements. Artists combine painting, drawing, photography and sculpture for mixed media art. Instead of sticking to one form, they aim to break boundaries and create unique pieces. Pop art is one of the vibrant periods for mixed media art, with Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg among its most fabled producers. Rauschenberg, like many mixed media artists, used found objects in his work, from cast-off furniture to newspapers.

Collage is one of the most well-known areas of mixed media. Artists use various types of paper, fabric, photographs and more to create one cohesive work. A type of collage is assemblage, which involves 3D objects.

While artists may use fabric in collage, it can be the very substance of the art itself. Fabric art makes extensive use of texture. Artists may paint or embroider on fabric to create layers of texture and color to evoke a specific feeling. They can also transfer photos onto fabric for innovative ways to display visuals.

Resin-based art has clean, sharp lines and a definitive shape. Resin is a liquid that hardens to a high-gloss surface and is used to seal wood, counters and floors. Resin can also seal artwork, and many artists tint it using pigment powder, ink, spray paint and other vivid materials. If water is added, the resin will turn milky instead of being completely transparent. It’s common for artists working in mixed media to use resin on nontraditional surfaces like glass, wood, metal and stone. This creates a shine that’s perfect to brighten a dull space in the home or office.
