A large scale American Hudson River School Impressionist landscape of a snow scene, most probably Wisconsin, by Leroy Ferdinand Jonas. The painting is signed and dated bottom right and presented in a fine gilt frame.
An imposing view of a snowy landscape most probably the artist's native Wisconsin. Jonas has captured the grandeur of the scene with the contrast between the thick lush snow and the rich colours of the foliage and leaves on the trees. His impasto technique is very characteristic of the American Impressionists as is the subject and sense of scale. A really beautiful painting which because of its scale would be a statement piece in any room.
LeRoy Jonas was born in the town of Texas, Marathon County, Wisconsin, on April 18, 1897, son of Johann F. and Marie (Borchardt) Jonas. He was educated in Wausau public schools and attended the Chicago Art Institute, where he studied under John Norton, noted for his murals, Leopold Seifert, noted for his portraits, and William Wilmovsky, a landscape artist. He worked as a commercial artist and Conservator of Fine Arts there. Eric Harrison-born 1971 in San Antonio, Texas. In 1995 he married Kim Marie, and together they have two sons, Noah and Ethan. The Harrison’s reside in the hill country west of Blanco, Texas.
Currently painting in a language resonant with other Texas artists such as Robert and Julian Onderdonk, Robert Wood, Porfirio Salinas, Dawson Dawson-Watson, and Robert Harrison; with an affinity toward the work of California painter William Wendt. Paul Cezanne and many of the post impressionists.

About the artist:
Born in 1876 in Saint-Omer, Eugène René is the second of four children of Antoine Albert Liénard of Saint-Delis (1840-1881), officer of the 5 th regiment of dragons and his wife Antoinette Emma Houet (1847 -1920). The birth of our artist is followed by that of his brother Henri (1878-1949), also a painter . The death of the illnesses of Captain Liénard de Saint-Delis led Emma to leave the Pas-de-Calais in 1881 to move to Le Havre with her four children.
After high school François-I of Le Havre where another student, Émile Othon Friesz , is his best friend, René de Saint-Delis attended successively the Municipal School of Fine Arts of Le Havre where, with his classmates, besides his brother Henri and Othon Friesz, others who will also become his friends ( Georges Braque , Raoul Dufy , Raimond Lecourt ), he follows the courses of Charles Lhuillier (a "great admirer of Boudin " at the same time as "he places the drawing first and foremost, forbidding his pupils to use color , and the Académie Julian in Paris, where from 1900 to 1904 he was a pupil of William Bouguereau . Chauncey Foster Ryder (29 February 1868 – 18 May 1949)[1] was an early 20th century American Postimpressionist Tonalist landscape painter known for a green-gray palette termed 'Ryder green'.
Education and personal life
Ryder was born in 1868 in Danbury, Connecticut, but grew up mainly in New Haven.[2][3] He began studying painting as a boy. In his early twenties, he moved to Chicago to attend the Art Institute,[4] then Smith's Academy.[5] After only a year at the latter, he was hired as an instructor.[5]
In 1891, he married Mary Dole Keith.[5] In 1901, they moved to Paris, France, where Ryder continued his art education, studying with Jean-Paul Laurens at the Académie Julian. Ryder stayed in France for several years, living in an art colony at Étaples and exhibiting his work at the Paris Salon (1903–1909).[3] He took on occasional students, including American painter William Posey Silva...

Background
John Fabian Carlson was born in Kolsebo in Västervik Municipality, Kalmar County, in Småland, Sweden. The Carlson family immigrated to the United States in 1884, making their home in Buffalo, New York. Carlson attended evening art classes at the Art Students League of Buffalo, New York. There Carlson received instruction from Lucius Wolcott Hitchcock, a former pupil at the Académie Colarossi in Paris and the Art Students League of New York.
