"Dancer with the scarf" lamp
Located in PARIS, FR
Agathon LÉONARD (1841–1923) Lamp "Danseuse à L'Écharpe" "Dancer with the scarf" lamp A very rare sculpture forming a table lamp, made in gilded bronze The scarf hides the light bulb Signed on the side of the dress "A. Léonard Sclp" Cast by Susse Frères (with founder stamp) France circa 1905 height 60 cm A similar model is reproduced in "Les bronzes du XIXe siècle", P. Kjellberg, Les éditions de l'amateur, 2005, page 460. Biography: Léonard Agathon Van Weydeveldt, said Agathon Léonard (1841-1923) was a sculptor of Belgian origin naturalized French. After studying art at the Lille Academy of Fine Arts and then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Agathon Léonard settled in Paris for a long time, where after having exhibited at the Salon of 1868, he joined the Society of French artists in 1887, then to the National Society of Fine Arts in 1897. Very involved in the artistic movement of the Art Nouveau style, he exhibited many pieces (medallions, bronze statuettes and ceramics) finely worked. Following an order from the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, dating from 1898, Agathon Léonard exhibited at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris his famous table centerpiece "Game of the scarf" in porcelain biscuit, composed of fifteen statuettes representing dancers with pleated dresses reminiscent of Loïe Fuller's choreographies or Neo-Greek dancers...

Suzanne Benton, 1974, Pelvic Woman, Copper, Coated Steel
Located in Darien, CT
In 1972, the women’s movement was in full flower. Suzanne Benton had been an early activist, a founder and organizer of NOW Chapters, CT Feminists in the Arts, Women, Metamorphosis 1 (in New Haven, CT, the first women’s art festival in the USA). She'd already been creating metal sculpted masks and working with them in mask tale performances of Women of Myth and Heritage. Her inaugural performance of Sarah and Hagar n 1972 took place at Lincoln Center in NYC. Benton then became the artistic director and producer of an evening on Broadway, Four Chosen Women (performers included herself as mask tale performer, author Anais Nin, actress Vinie Burroughs and dancer Joan Stone). The evening took place at the Edison Theatre, November 22, 1972. While developing the evening on Broadway, Benton met renowned Swedish actress and Hollywood star, Viveca Lindfors. Viveca was then working on her solo performance, I AM A WOMAN, and was looking for a unique theatre set for the show. The happenstance that brought Viveca and Suzanne together. At that same time, recent travel to Macchu Picchu inspired her with the mountain’s great stones sitting on the edge of precipices. These vast stones led her to create welded steel Seated Sculpture Works. Viveca was intrigued by the concept and let her own imagination fly. Imagining a set of welded steel sculpture, she took the leap in commissioning Suzanne with complete faith in artist's ability to fulfill her mandate. Benton created groups of welded sculptures for two theater sets. Protection is one of three sculptures in first set created in 1973. Mother and Child, Pelvic Woman, Facing Each Other are three of five works from the 1974 second set. The first toured with her shows throughout the East Coast and into Toronto, Canada. The second set, created to nest together could travel as checked baggage for international and domestic airline travel. They flew to Denmark in 1980 for her performance at the UN sponsored 1980 Women’s International Conference, Copenhagen. In addition to creating the theatre sets, Benton mounted exhibitions of her masks and sculptures in the lobbies of theatres where she performed (NYC and Northampton). Continuing on with this theme, Becoming is her 1975 Seated Sculpture Work. The theatre sets were returned at the final end of its long run. These Seated Sculpture Works have often been featured in exhibitions, including both the 2003 and 2005 retrospectives. They are part of an oeuvre of 797 sculptures and masks. What attracted her to welded sculpture? This excerpt from her book, The Art of Welded Sculpture, Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1975 speaks of its lure: "Early in my life, when I had decided to become an artist, I had had an inner vision of being able to hold the physical material of my art in such a way as to bring it into existence with my hands. In welding, I wear a mask, a heavy apron, and gloves. I heat the metal and make it bend so smoothly and gracefully; I cut the metal, rigid metal, into endless shapes; I join the pieces by causing them to flow together with the heat of the flame. Welding was a return to my adolescent vision. It was fulfillment. At that beginning time I felt that even if I went no further, this experience in itself gave me astounding satisfaction. It was as thrilling as the moment of birth. It was my birth." (Pelvic Woman and Protection are illustrated in the book): What began in 1965 became by 2017 an oeuvre of 797 sculptures and masks. The magic of the welding mask...

Brutalist Abstract Sculpture, Gilded Steel and Bronze James Bearden American Mod
Located in Surfside, FL
Wall-hanging sculpture: blackened steel, fused bronze, solvent dyes, abstract form, USA; Signed; 20 x 8 x 3 1/4 Suggesting archaeological artifacts from the future, these sculptures and functional pieces have been described as post-apocalyptic and brutalist in style, and they’re capturing the attention of collectors and galleries across the country. Bearden was born in Alabama but grew up in Des Moines and received bachelor’s degrees in fine art and visual communications from Grand View University. He worked in graphic design for 20 years, most of that time as an award-winning art director at Flynn Wright advertising agency. In 2007, at the age of 43, he decided to leave that job and focus on fine art. A longtime painter, Bearden found himself drawn to sculpture. The work of Pablo Picasso, Harry Bertoia, Alexander Calder and Louise Nevelson particularly inspired him. His early pieces were smooth, abstract shapes made from wire and sheets of steel painted with bright colors, evoking pop art. That felt like a dead end, he says, so he went in the opposite direction, building both organic and architectonic forms encrusted with craggy texture and charred, corroded or patinated finishes. In 2012 Bearden entered his first public art competition. His sculpture, Paths Unite, was accepted for Clive’s Art Along the Trail and then purchased for the city’s permanent collection. He also has outdoor sculptures at Blank Park Zoo and Lowe Art Center in Marion, as well as in Ames, Coralville and Plymouth, Minnesota. Rago auction brought Bearden’s sculptures to the attention of Larry Weinberg, owner of Weinberg Modern in New York. Weinberg began collecting Bearden’s work for himself and his gallery. This past winter, he curated a solo show of Bearden’s sculptures and functional pieces at 1stdibs Gallery in the New York Design Center. Weinberg compares Bearden’s style to the brutalist furniture of Paul Evans (1931-1987), a midcentury modern craftsman described as “the father of the modern art-furniture movement.” Brutalism as an architectural style emerged after World War II and was characterized by the use of rough concrete as the primary building material. The term has been revived in the past few years to apply to a raw, un-prettified approach to web design as well as to the 1960s-1970s interior design aesthetic that emphasized rugged textures, distressed metals, unfinished concrete and industrial materials. He went on to create cabinet-like boxes that he categorized as Dwelling Boxes, Harry Boxes (a tribute to the late sculptor and modern furniture designer Harry Bertoia), Barnacle Boxes...

Blind Trust, Atelier
Located in Laguna Beach, CA
“Courage is a kind of salvation.” —Plato. Nothing worthwhile springs from fear: fear is the serpent in the garden, the hole in the boat, the flaw in the plan—it can steer us from danger, but ungoverned by courage it is just as likely to steer us toward a bad outcome. We all have the capacity to be brave, and it is by finding our courage that everything we value comes into being—there can be no love without courage, no kindness without courage, no creativity without courage. As we all face this crisis of unusual scope, we are all living as the figures in Richard MacDonald’s “Blind Faith...

Carlos Betancourt Sculpture Spray Paint Painting Miami Latin American Modern Art
Located in Surfside, FL
Carlos Betancourt, American (Born 1966) Abstract Sculpture Spray Paint and hand Painted Sculptural Wall Applique. Hand signed. Dimensions: 23 X 23 inches approximately Three dimensional neo primitive wall relief I believe this is from The Sounds Symbols Project (2000), a monumental ephemeral installation in the sand in Miami Beach. Carlos Betancourt (born San Juan, Puerto Rico 1966) is an American multi-disciplinary artist. His artworks explore issues of memory, and his own experiences, while also dwelling in issues of nature, the environment and matters of beauty, identity and communication. He has worked as a curator, furniture designer and has collaborated in with Louis Vuitton as well as on architectural and site-specific private and public commissions with architect Alberto Latorre. Betancourt artwork is in part inspired by his relationship with nature as well as by the diverse cultures and history of the Caribbean basin, Florida and the Americas. Also by artist Ana Mendieta interventions, Robert Rauschenberg assemblages, Andy Warhol perceptions, Neo Rauch compositions, and a Federico Fellini-esque cast of characters for his photo assemblages. Additionally, he relates to some of theorist Jean Baudrillard views about art and his philosophy on objects; French artist Gustave Courbet's idea that "the only possible source for living art is the artist's own experiences", as well as the Martinican writer and theoretician, Edouard Glissant's belief that ..."the past resides in material objects that only release their hidden meanings when encountered imaginatively and sensuously. Betancourt admires the works of diverse artists such as Fernando Oller, Cisco Jimenez, Bill Viola...

Large Sebastien de Ganay Folded Linen Abstract Minimalist Sculpture Fabric Wire
Located in Surfside, FL
Folded Flat Linen 03 Unique work 2016 Dimensions: H: 35 cm / W: 36 cm / D: 9 cm Materials: architectural wire mesh, raw linen Born in 1962 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Sebastien De Ganay studied political science and film at Columbia University in New York 1986-1990 ( (Bachelor of Political Science, Master of Fine Arts in Cinema) and is co-founder and editor of the art book publishing house onestar press. In addition to numerous exhibition participations, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Landesmuseum Österreich in St. Pölten, Austria, the Institut Français in Vienna showed a comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist in 2014. In 2017, de Ganay realized a highly acclaimed installation for the Kunsthalle Krems. de Ganay lives and works in Austria. de Ganay produces minimalist abstract art works, painting, relief and wall sculpture. Sculptures made of aluminum, linen fabric, plastic, oil painting, wood and other materials. de Ganay joins a tradition of experimental artists. In this sense, for example, the Achromes by the Italian Arte-Povera artist Piero Manzoni, created in the 1960s, point the way for de Ganay's examination of folded linen fabric. "The process of de Ganay's Painting is the process of thought itself; it is a process which turns not away from painting, but towards it. And rather than seeing painting as closure, he presents his work to us as a space of multiple openings, layers, shadows and reflections. Painting is, as much as an object or a process, a state of flux." (Adrian Searle, art critic for The Guardian, London (1994)) In the style of Readymades and Arte Povera, de Ganay starts out from a simple utility material and combines this with an examination of the surface in the tradition of Minimal Art. He designed a limited edition chair "PLEASE" a “4 Piece Chair” customized by John Baldessari, Lawrence Weiner and Rirkrit Tiravanija. SELECT SOLO EXHIBITIONS: 2019 CRISS CROSS - Sébastien de Ganay, Raffaella della Olga, Galerie Steinek, Wien, Österreich "Flip, Flop, Flux", Galerie Ruzicska, Salzburg, Austria 2018 "und, und, und", rauminhalt harald bichler, Vienna, Austria 2017 "Fold on Fold", Häusler Contemporary, Lustenau, Austria "Transposition an Reproduction", Kunsthalle Krems in der Dominikanerkirche, Krems, Austria 2016 "Space on the Move", Hausler Contemporary, Zurich, Switzerland 2015 "Fold", Häusler Contemporary, Munich, Germany "Folded Flat" Galerie Ruzicska, Salzburg, Austria 2014 "Turn the green light on", Institut Français in Palais Clam-Gallas, Vienna, Austria "over again forever" Galerie Steinek, Vienna, Austria 2013 Sébastien de Ganay, "Carton Sculptures", rauminhalt harald bichler, Vienna, Austria St. Moritz Art Masters, Schlosserei, St. Moritz, Switzerland "you are here", Galerie Günter Salzmann, Innsbruck, Austria 2010 Presentation of the "All in one"-project, Galerie Renos Xippas, Paris, France 2009 "Catalogue", Daniel Abate Galeria, Buenos Aires, Argentina 2005 "Máscaras, más cajas, más caras", Daniel Abate Galeria, Buenos Aires, Argentina 2004 "Artist Quarterly", Sotheby’s, Vienna, Austria 2002 Galerie Jacqueline Rabouan-Moussion, Paris, France 2001 "Blanchiment d’argent et haute couture", Galerie Jacqueline Rabouan-Moussion, Paris, France SELECT GROUP EXHIBITIONS: 2019 "THE OTHER IS ONESELF", FRANZ JOSEFS KAI 3, Vienna, Austria "Sculptura", Iris Andraschek, Babi Badalov, Khaled Barakeh, Bernhard Cella, Adriana Czerni, Ramesch Daha, Sébastien de Ganay, Raffaella della Olga, Julius Deutschbauer, Sylvia Eckermann, Anna Jermolaewa, Bouchra Khalili, Thomas Locher, Jonathan Monk, Klaus Mosettig, Rudolf Polansky, Hans Schabus, Slavs & Tatars Gerold Tagwerker, Florian Unterberger, Costa Vece, Martin Walde, Lawrence Weiner, Nil Yalter...
