Pair of Blue and White Delft Mantle Vases Made by De Klaauw circa 1780
By De Klaauw
Located in Katonah, NY
We are pleased to offer this pair of Dutch Delft blue and white mantel vases painted in shades of cobalt blue showing a well painted scene of a country gentleman seated on a bench near a cottage. The scene is bordered by a dark blue outline and topped by an oversized flower. The blue outline and oversized flower are traditional to Dutch Delft mantle vases.
The finial is a rare example of the "Bobbejak", the tippler. He sits on a wine barrel holding a jug in one hand and a mug in the other. His head is cocked to one side indicating that he's tipsy.
The bottom of each vase has the mark of "De Klaauw" and "150" in underglaze blue.
